Sen. Alexander Gives Indicted Senator’s Cash To Charity
Posted on July 31, 2008 at 3:39 pmTennessee’s own Lamar Alexander has joined those Senator’s jettisoning campaign funds gleaned from the embattled and indicted Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.
Post Politics has confirmed that the $10,000 dollars received by Alexander from Stevens’ Northern Lights PAC in 2008 as well as the $5,000 received in 2002 has been given to the United Way.
UPDATE: A statement from Campaign coordinator Jeremy Harrell:
“Americans are innocent until they’re proven guilty. Our campaign made the decision to donate the contributions to charity to avoid distraction.”

Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, is under indictment and some of his fellow senators are in a bind about what to do with the money he gave their campaigns. That includes Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., who has received $10,000 from Stevens’ Northern Lights political action committee over the past year.

Alaska Senator Ted Stevens Indicted

Government sources tell CBS News Republican Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has been indicted on seven charges related to a corruption probe.
A federal grand jury in Washington has handed up the indictment against Stevens — which the Justice Department is set to announce very shortly.
Stevens faces seven counts of false statements involving VECO, the oil services company in Alaska, and the renovations done on his home.
