Brother, Can You Spare A Dollar

Posted on February 6, 2009 at 10:40 am

The progressive blogosphere has reached and exceeded ever goal set for itself thus money-wise in its fundraiser designed to help new TNDP chair Chip Forrester but they are falling short in one area:

While our original mission to attract a high number of small donations seems to be realized by the fact that our average donation is under $30, we did not quite meet our goal of attracting 100 donors. So, before we make the donation, we call upon 21 more donors to give whatever they can to help us hit 100 on the donor meter. If you can contribute $1, $5, $10, $15 or whatever to help us see Chip In through to 100 donors, you would be helping us claim a spot for liberals at the table when party decisions get made. Just click on the ActBlue thermometer banner in the righthand column to contribute.

Chip Forrester Thanks The Bloggers

The new TNDP chairman thanks the progressive blogosphere for its fundraising effort on his behalf:

From the beneficiary of this effort, on behalf of the Party, let me give you my heartfelt thanks for doing this. This effort will allow us to, 1) expand the base of the Democratic Party in Tennessee and 2) involve a whole new group of donors in our efforts to Take Back the House in 2010. Keep ‘chippin’ in for Tennessee.” You can read my acceptance speech and what I hope to accomplish in Tennessee at www.tndp.org. Again my deepest thanks for this.

Now They Can Buy The Food For A Real Fundraiser

The big netroots effort spearheaded by Knoxville blogger R. Neal to raise funds for the new grassroots Tennessee Democratic Party headed by Chip Forrester has reached its goal. The benchmark was set at $1,000 by Friday. That point was reached in just a few hours this morning.

UPDATE: R. Neal:

Wow, Tennessee Democrats have stepped up to support the Tennessee Democratic Party, and progressive Tennessee bloggers met our three-business-day fundraing goal of $1000 in only FOUR HOURS AND 20 MINUTES!

Thanks to everyone who contributed. Because of the amazing response, we are doubling down and raising our goal to $2000 by the close of business Friday. We also want to get at least 50 individual grassroots/netroots contributors, so tell your friends and neighbors.

Thanks again to everyone!

A Blue Chip Special

The progressive blogosphere is apparently not content sit back and allow the Democratic bigwigs, money men and insiders to make snide comments about the new TNDP chairman’s ability to raise funds. They are going to actually do something to prove them wrong:

progressive bloggers across the state of Tennessee are this morning launching the “Chip in!” online fundraising blogathon to support the Tennessee Democratic Party during this critical rebuilding phase.

We have set up an ActBlue fundraising page where you can “chip in” a little or as much as you can to support this netroots effort and help the Tennessee Democratic Party hit the ground running for the critical 2010 elections for Governor and House of Representatives. Your secure online contribution goes directly to the Tennessee Democratic Party’s FEC regulated committee fund.

In his acceptance speech, TNDP chair Chip Forrester said “The Democratic Party has always stood for the average man and woman against the forces of power, privilege, and elitism. We have stood for fairness and safety in the marketplace and in the workplace, we have stood for individual rights and freedoms, we have stood for equal opportunities for all Americans, we have stood for equality and justice for all.”

The Obama campaign revealed a fundamental shift in American politics away from the “forces of power, privilege, and elitism” towards a more inclusive process, powered by an unprecedented grassroots movement of everyday people getting involved.

UPDATE: As of 8:40am nine donors had combined to give a total of $725
