Make Way For Fred From Fed?

Mediaverse discusses the potential fallout if FedEx CEO Fred Smith is picked as John McCain’s VP:

Whether it is or not, life wouldn’t be easy at all. Think of all the scrutiny that FedEx’s business practices would receive. As the Democratic National Committee has shown, they are more than prepared to dig deep into Smith’s history in order to discredit him.

And if that happens, you know if Smith is the chosen one, might Obama forget about trying to win Tennessee? What kind of drama would that create in Shelby County?

If Obama hasn’t already forgot about winning Tennessee, he’s got a lot more problems than I thought.

Marc Ambinder bandies about a Tennessee name in the national chatter:

A dark horse, to be sure, but some McCain advisers are asking others what they’d think about Frederick Smith, the chief executive officer of Federal Express. Mr. Smith is 64, an articulate spokesperson for Republican economic principles, knowledgable about globalization and economic flattening, and a long-time friend of McCain’s, to boot. He was also a Marine and served in Vietnam, earning a chest full of medals. And while he’s a reliable support of GOP causes, he has many Democratic friends….
