Ward Ain’t Playin’

Ken Whitehouse reports on what one of the lesser known candidates for governor is bringing to the table:

Not very well known, if it all, in most Democratic circles, Cammack’s announcement didn’t seem to ruffle the feathers of any other potential candidates.

That should change with this bit of inside baseball news.

The powerhouse political firm of Murphy Putnam Media has joined up with Cammack’s campaign, according to the Cammack team. Haven’t heard of them? They did a few other political campaigns you may remember like Gov. Phil Bredesen, Mayor Karl Dean, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and a fellow named Barack Obama media.

In other words, this news shouldn’t be taken lightly by any Democratic gubernatorial aspirants.

This can’t be good. Matt Hurtt has some thoughts.

Hispanic Bloggers Not Happy About Richardson Appointment At Commerce

At least not all of them:

“Secretary Of Commerce = Where We Stick Latinos To Say We’re Diverse,” wrote Adventures of the Coconut Caucus blog, as they noted Richardson will succeed Cuban-born Carlos Miguel Gutierrez, President Bush’s nominee in 2004.

Most critics argued that Clinton got the State job over Richardson, who has more demonstrable international experience. Los Blogueros and Latino Politics Blog expressed their disappointment in late November when the Clinton news first surfaced. “Remember how many in the Latino community were hoping that Bill Richardson would get the top diplomat spot,” Latino Politics Blog wrote.

A reporter asked Obama about the perceived slight among the Hispanic community today at a press conference in Chicago with Richardson. “Commerce secretary is a pretty good job,” Obama quipped, defending the importance of the Commerce post for his economic agenda.

Hug Interrupted

The LA Times reports on an uncomfortable moment between Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton:

Well, today on the very same stage in Espanola, New Mexico, there stood the defeated Democratic senator from New York, Hillary Clinton, dutifully campaigning as promised for Obama. And right there too was Richardson.

Clinton said all the right things all right. She smiled. She waHillary Clinton and Bill Richardson share a pushug, an embrace that looks like a hug but really isn’tved. She thanked her longtime friend Richardson, albeit simply for “being here today.”

But some Clinton supporters may detect a different message in the body language of the aborted hug between Richardson, who started to put both his arms around his former friend, and Hillary Clinton who seemed to pull back.

We’re going to call it a pushug, an embrace that looks like a hug for appearance’s sake but carries no intimacy or friendship whatsoever.
