A Pro-Profit College Explosion

Thanks to the stimulus:

Many people — including the students — may not realize that the grants can be used to attend vocational colleges and for-profit schools where they can earn associate degrees and specialized training in fields that range from interior decorating to medical assistance to cosmetology.

“This year has been unbelievable,” said Chassity Harrell, admissions officer at Genesis Career Center in Lebanon, whose students received more than half a million dollars in stimulus aid last year. “I’m going to say our enrollment numbers have doubled.”

There are 138 students enrolled at Genesis right now, attending 30 hours a week for eight months to earn their cosmetology licenses, at the cost of $12,000 in tuition.
