Making Voting Easier On The Troops

Posted on February 9, 2010 at 9:11 am

Sen Bill Ketron is on it:

State Senator Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) has introduced legislation in the Tennessee General Assembly to make it easier for troops deployed overseas to vote in the next election. The bill, Senate bill 2681, comes as Tennessee’s largest National Guard unit is scheduled to deploy this week from Camp Shelby, Mississippi to Iraq.

“We need to do everything in our power to make it easier for our soldiers, who are defending our freedoms overseas, to have the opportunity to vote,” said Senator Ketron. “It is the least we can do as they have certainly earned that right and that respect.”

Ketron needed a positive piece of legislation after his abysmal record of sponsored legislation over the past few sessions. This should help. Is he running scared for his upcoming re-election campaign?

I did 10 years in the U.S. Navy and wished then there was a better way to vote when half-way around the world. The absentee ballots were more often than not, late and not counted. I don’t like the idea of using email in this manner because of how easy it is to fake email but at least this is a step in the right directions. It’s a crime when the very people defending all American’s right to vote cannot themselves exercise that right.

Bring our troops home, then it will be easy to vote.
