   “My wife decided after the ’08 election,” he said. “There was so much bad racial stuff out of Tennessee on Obama. I’m in an interracial marriage. I don’t want to subject my wife to this, and I want to start a family. I think my marriage is more accepted here than it would be in Tennessee.

   As one who voted for you enthusiastically, if this is the way you feel, sure glad you don’t reprsent the state. Don’t let the door… actually, nevermind.

   What a lame ass excuse. The real reason is the Fords are losing their influence - if you can imagine - in Memphis of all places.

   You can only imagine how sick the people are of that family when he has to start playing that card as a way out. What a sham of a candidacy.

   They wouldn’t, and they wouldn’t accept him shagging the interns when he would come back to Tennessee. My sister knew one whom Harold had a very close relationship with and didn’t return certain personal items she left in his hotel room one night. Even after she tried to get them back, he just said he couldn’t remember if he had seen them. Yea, right! A piece of fine jewelry, uh huh. Harold is such a “Tiger”,,,,,,,,Woods.

   the ford legacy of memphis is probably the leader in payouts and under the table dealings in the political field. i say good ridence to bad rubbish. we need statemen instead of graft bought politicians. if only we could get rid of all the corruption in politics we could return trust in our officials

    Oh come on now, Harold Ford Junior….. admit it, you were pleasantly surprised to find some resistance to Sen. Gillibrand in the “political class” living in the Empire State.

    I think that you are deluding yourself, Sir.

    For all her faults, Sen. Gillibrand has the full support of Mayor Bloomberg, Sen. Chuck Schumer, AIPAC and the COPOMAJO. She earned that powerful support by publicly dissing the UN’s Goldstone Report, which criticized Israel for possible war crimes during Operation Cast Lead, in Gaza - 1,400 Palestinians died, 14 Israelis perished in the 22-day war.

    Unless you can outdo Gillibrand in kow-towing to the pro-Israel lobby, you are out of luck, Junior. BTW, the prejudice in New York against the “schwartze” is more covert and discreet than the stuff you find in Tennessee.

    One more thing, thank you for pointing out the rampant racism in the Volunteer State; if you say it exists, I believe it. On that subject, you do have some street cred.

    Having lived in several parts of NY State and L.I. for a number of years, Harold Ford will be in for a great surprise if he thinks New York will be more considerate of his marital arrangement than in Tennessee. Segregation is far more wide spread and in some cases, more vocal than Tennessee ever considered! His personal choice of marital partners does influence his political chances no matter the region of the country. To bring children into that picture is a burden and is not his alone BUT don’t put the onus of blame and guilt on Tennessee! That horse just will not trot….ooops, did I just make a racial statement, implying the man is a horse? The Ford family on the way out?

    Way to go playing the race card as you bail on your state and voters who supported you. Maybe it wasn’t as much the interratial marriage issue as your family issues with the whole Ford legacy in the Memphis area. You are supposed to have character and not be one!

    This is shocking. What a slam to all Tennesseans. There is no more racism in this state than anywhere else in the US. Having lived in NY state and PA for a few years, I witnessed more anti-African-American bias in Philly, Syracuse and NYC than I EVER saw growing up in Nashville!!!

    Amazing HFJr. feels he can stab us in the gut and leave the scene of the crime and think his ‘crime’ won’t haunt him in New York state! I hope his obvious racism will ring loud and clear up there.

    Considering today’s racial mixtures, unless you have did a complete family tree research, what makes you so sure you are of only one race? Ford surely doesn’t look entirely Negro to me.

    Why is it that ‘only a thimble full’ of Negro blood considered black

    And, yes, racism is still all over our nation. But which side of the fence is it really on?

    You can have a black Miss America and a white girl cannot enter it. But a black girl can enter the Miss America contest. They can have a black Party in our legislature and a white legislator can not be in it.

    And do you ever hear that as being racist?

    Harold is right. I get the most horrible emails about our President. I am so ashamed of my state. TN is racial to the core. If the majority of people in TN is proud of what Bush did for eight years, our state is doomed. We did not elect the one person from our state that always had TN in his heart and that was VP Gore. He made sure we had the best roads in the nation and he kept a nuclear plant out of Middle TN, and he would not let nuclear waste be transported through TN. Now anything goes. He said that we needed only one accident of nuclear waste and the damage would be forever. We are now the crossway for its transportation. Rep. Blacburn voted to accept nuclear waste from Italy. She is sure looking out for TN.

    Harold Ford Jr. This is a complete and total cop out! Your success in this state has nothing to do with your choice of life partner, but more to do with your family history in general. First off you are mixed anyway and secondly, most people knew you would marry a white lady anyway since that is all that you used to date. So don’t think that is a super big shock. And if you don’t think you are going to face racism in New York then you are just delusional. Your family (uncle jailbird in particular) is the main reason you couldn’t carry this state. And your crazy Aunt didn’t help your cause either. So quit blaming your race and put the blame where it squarely needs to be…Your family! Maybe you should have just changed your name and you could be married to a cat and nobody would care, lol.

    Blue, you would be amazed at where most of those emails you referred to actually originate. So, do not single out TN. I heard of a gentleman and his family who recently moved back from TN after living in Philadelphia, and he said racism was alive and well in that city, and it’s out in the open in lots of cases. So, stop your slapping TN, O.K. ? It makes you look very uneducated and immature. As for AlGore (you brought it up) he sure has been very quiet lately. Is he in a cave hibernating somewhere. If I lived near him I would have made sure a snowman was erected in his yard with a very appropriate sign on it, and maybe a couple of snowballs strategically placed.     I have never gotten one unless you count the ones that called him by other names of course a RED.

    How many of us writing on this article ever actually voted for Mr. Ford? He knew his constituents, read the temp, and moved somewhere else. Most of the comments posted here would seem to indicate that even if he stayed and converted to a right-wing faction the majority would not have voted for him.

    What would be ideal would be for AlGore and Ford to both divorce their wives, and go to a state like Iowa, or one of the NE states, and marry each other. Now that would be a match made in Heaven, or…….maybe the other place. At least they deserve each other. I’m really sorry I brought that up.
