Herron Releases Congressional Campaign Numbers

Posted on January 4, 2010 at 3:33 pm

From a presser:

Breaking all 8th Congressional District fundraising records, Senator Roy Herron will report more than $675,000 for his campaign, all raised in less than a month. Herron is running for the seat currently held by Congressman John Tanner, who is retiring and not seeking re-election.

“I am delighted to have received contributions from all 19 counties in the 8th District, including from Democrats, Republicans and Independents,” Herron said.

End-of-quarter reports are being prepared by Herron’s campaign for release later this month as required by federal law.

Herron had less than a month before the end of the quarter to put together the $675,000 following Congressman Tanner’s retirement announcement on December 1.

“We feel blessed by the support we have received in less than a month from so many in our district and across the state,” Herron said. “I am particularly grateful to have received contributions from many long-time friends as well as from new friends and supporters. I am very excited about the prospect of working with Tennessee families to address the challenges that face our district and our country.”

Herron got contributions from more than 650 donors, including himself. Herron personally put $250,000 into the campaign, which will be reflected as a loan on the federal report.

“With the help of our friends and supporters, we will be able to fight for jobs and economic development for West and Middle Tennessee families. We need to get our country back on track, and I’m ready to get to work right here in the 8th District,” Herron said.

Why is the national republican party getting behind this loony Singing Farmer from Frog Jump? Chris Devaney and that black Chairman of the RNC have let Roy Herron out raise our own candidate in a republican year. Could it Devaney make it any worse for us in the 8th? Good God!

People will be reminded that Roy Herron volunteered to defend Robert Glen Coe, a child rapist and murderer, then went on to write and law journal article on how to get killers off the hook. Thats just what we need. He is to the left of John Tanner and was the chief “Goron” in 2000. I dont think he can raise enough money to outrun his past. People in his senate district know what a weasal and self indulged egomaniac that he is. Republicans just couldnt find a candidate. I think that Dresden TN should call their “village idoit” home.

JD- good try for someone who didn’t take high school civics, but I think most people understand that, in the U.S., according to our Constitution, everyone is entitled to a fair trial. That’s why Herron was the defense in that case. And clearly justice was served on all fronts. Coe received a fair trial, was found guilty and executed in 2000.

I guess the GOPer’s have nothing else to do but to fight against the Constitution, those who defend it, and those things we Americans hold dear.

Or they could just be mad that they got their asses spanked in fundraising.

The GOP also knows that Roy is a fireball of a campaigner, well-known and respected in the district. Nobody can touch him - they’ve tried just about every dirty thing in the GOP playbook, and it hasn’t stuck.

Yes everyone deserves a trial, but Herron volunteered to work for a confessed child rapist/killer. Thats fine if you want a career representing death penalty cases. He went on to write a murder manual on how to defend killers. Again, thats fine if you want a career as a lawyer. Be sure to tell all that to the parents of the 9yr old child. Cary Ann Medlin, the victim’s, rights were snuffed out by Coe by his own admission. So being on the side of a child rapist does not help you to win office in a conservative district with conservative and religious values. As a politician, people dont like someone who coddles criminals. The 8th district is trending Republican because of Obama and the far left. Obama got whipped 2 to one in this district. Herron tries to portray himself as a good ol boy, but he is another far left progressive that muddies up his voting record for the folks back home. He would be more at home in Massachusetts. He may be a tireless campaigner, but the GOP has not had anyone with the fire in the belly that could raise money until now. And people are fed up with Obama and the democrats. They want to take back our country from these people.
