Fmr. Lt. Gov. John Wilder Airlifted To Hospital After Suffering A Stroke

Acording to sources in the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, former Tennessee Lt. Governor John Wilder, 87, fell unconscious on Monday and was airlifted from his home in Somerville to a hospital in Memphis. No further confirmation is available at the moment, but details will be posted as received.

UPDATE: Jimmy Naifeh confirms:

State Rep. Jimmy Naifeh, D-Covington, a longtime friend and legislative colleague, said he spoke briefly with a family member, but did not want to say more.

“I’ve got to respect their privacy,” Naifeh said.

UPDATE II: AP:

Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey said he was told Monday by 911 officials that the 86-year-old Wilder had been found unconscious at his home in Mason in West Tennessee and was taken to a Memphis hospital.

Ramsey said he didn’t know Wilder’s condition, but will “keep him in my thoughts and prayers.”

UPDATE III: Statement from the Senate Democratic Caucus:

The leadership of the Tennessee Senate Democratic Caucus released the following statement upon learning news that former Lt. Gov. John Wilder had suffered a stroke:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Gov. Wilder and the Wilder family tonight,” Senator Jim Kyle, the Senate Democratic Leader, said from Memphis.

Senator Lowe Finney, Caucus Chairman, said from Jackson: “Governor John Wilder is known for his toughness. We hope for a full and speedy recovery.”
