Zelenik On The Gordon Retirement
Posted on December 14, 2009 at 11:25 amOne of the already announced Republican opponents for the seat shares her thoughts:
“I applaud Congressman Gordon for his years of service to the people of Tennessee and for his willingness to accept the changes within our state. When Congressman Gordon came to office, the Sixth District was a very different place than it is today. I commend him for recognizing that the voters are looking for representation that more closely aligns with their values and giving them the opportunity to select a new congressman.
Since my entry into this race in October, I have heard the voices of Tennesseans who were ignored in Washington for too long. Their passion for change has fueled my campaign to replace a professional politician with a small business owner who will listen to the views of my constituents and provide a voice to match their values.
With the departure of Congressman Gordon from the race, I am more firmly grounded in my belief that Tennesseans are looking for new leadership that doesn’t place political career above the critical issues facing our nation. Part of the groundswell we have seen this year was to take power from the hands of professional politicians and give voice to the men and women who work hard, create the jobs and pay the bills. Now that Congressman Gordon has recognized that we want fiscal responsibility, an approach to healthcare that is grounded in freedom and energy policy that promotes job creation over radical environmentalism, I look forward to the work ahead and the great opportunity for our nation in 2010.”
