Collins: Some DCRP Members ‘Have A Personal Vendetta Against Me’
Posted on November 19, 2009 at 3:15 pmIn a message to the Davidson County Republican Party listserve, First Vice Chair Matt Collins speaks on the charges against him and the unfolding process to have him removed from the party:
After being served with notice of the hearing date on November 10th 2009, I am responding within 10 calendar days confirming the public hearing is set for Tuesday November 24th, 6pm at the Green Hills Hampton Inn - Belle Meade room.
Two significant questions exist:
- What is the procedural process for the hearing?
- Who is presenting for the complainant?
Due to the personal animosity shown towards me by Chairman Starnes during her tenure as DCRP Chair thus far, a neutral, geographically distant, uninterested, and objective individual familiar with Roberts Rules of Order, and the TNGOP ByLaws, (preferably an attorney) is required to chair this special hearing to ensure fairness, proper procedure, and equitable treatment.
I am hereby requesting discovery of all e-mails, correspondence, and written communication, electronic or otherwise, regarding myself and / or this motion for removal, and/or the hearing, both internal and external to the TRP, both internal and external to the DCRP, among TRP officers, staff, SEC members, DCRP officers, and EC members, appointees, or any other involved individuals professionally or personally specifically but not limited to Chairman Kathleen Starnes, Region Chair Kay Brooks, Director at Large Diane di Stasio, State Executive Committee Member Beth Cambell, Secretary Barbara Oonk, Communications Chair Lynda Hayes, Metro Council Member Karen Bennett, Chairman Chris Devaney, Secretary Paula McCord, Vice Chairman Bob Rial, Director John Newman, Director Kim Ketchel, Director Charlie Schnieder, and Assistant Anna Chatham. DCRP Advisory Board members, Lee Barfield, Lee Beaman, Governor Winfield Dunn, Jimmy Earle, Jane Ferrell, Tootie Haskins, and LaRawn Scaife-Rhea, in addition to TRP legal counsel, and DCRP legal counsel, are included in the discovery request as well.
My full response and rebuttal to the allegations against me will be made at the scheduled hearing; I reserve all rights.
It should be known I’m trying to build the Party and move it forward into the future. I am not attempting to be destructive of the Party contrary to claims by my adversaries. It is a shame that those who have a personal vendetta against me are the ones being destructive of the Party by way of this unfounded and divisive motion against me, generating negative PR for the Party as a result. It is regretful that this misunderstanding exists as I hold full respect for the office and positions of all of our elected officials. I am confident that a reasoned dialog will allow a resolution to be reached in an amicable manner.
Matt Collins
1st Vice Chairman
Davidson County Republican Party

Good for you Matt! I look forward to seeing who was really behind this. I will send you a little money, to help you with your lawyer.
Jeeze, is this guy for real?
Does he really think he, or this position, is THAT important to anybody but himself?
There are petty personal disputes in local political organizations?
Gasp! Alert the media!
“I am hereby requesting discovery of”….BwaHAHAHAHAHA. Does this dude really think this is some sort of super legitimate court hearing? A freaking homeowners association has more legal pull than the DCRP.
Next he’ll be talking about how this “hearing” (read: semi-formal meeting to boot your ass) violates his constitutional rights or some BS.
He’s complaining about personal animosity? I thought the “lesson” he taught was that if you disagree with someone politically, you should show personal animosity, as he did to Wamp and Haslam. Now he’s whining that people are being rude to him? Rich.
Johnny,
That is different, his was based on CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES!
You’re requesting discovery? What kind of half witted drama queen are you? I’ve got an idea that obviously hasn’t occurred to you: why don’t you try reading the rules? You broke the rules of an organization and in those rules are the means of your removal. Did you actually read what you were asking for above? the way i read it, you want EVERYTHING ANYONE has ever said about you and this removal in any form. You have no legal grounds to ask for these things, but in the spirit of friendship I will be the first to give you what you requested.
1 When I first heard you were running for DCRP chair I told the guy Was sitting next to at O’Charley’s, “I sure hope he’s not one of those tin foil hat wearing nuts”
2 aprox. 30 seconds later after googling your name I replied “too bad”
3 read every comment I have posted on this site concerning you.
4 on face book ” what is that knuckle dragging troglodyte thinking refusing to shake a congressman’s hand?”
5 I also texted a friend, “wow he’s even crazier in person”
I think thats everything, if I find more I ll let you know. Please feel free to use as much of this as you like in your hearing.
*sigh*
It’s their party and you can cry if you want to
The above and a lot of what I have said on here has been over the top. I still believe all the same things, but I have been very insulting and am sorry.
Sean Braisted….What are you doing commenting on Republicn politics? What a crock! You are the most left wing partisan political hack in town…come on now…at least try to maintain some credibility here. Go back and spend some time on Mary Mancini & Freddy O’Connells good time radio hour and feel better about being a Socialist and while you are at it…wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of your Obama lovin’ pals, if they are ACTUALLY thankful for ANYTHING the United States has accomplished in the last 250 years.
Judge Nixon “Stand By” for the most
serious case of this decade! I just
hope discovery doesn’t include all
comments shown on NCP web site. LOL
Jon,
What rock have you been hiding under and why can’t you go back?
*MEOW!!* *MEOW!!* *PFFFFTTT!!* *RAOW!!*
I like both jzcrisp and Sean Braisted. Putting them together in this forum is like putting two alley cats together in a box and shaking up that box!! *MEOW!!* *MEOW!!* *PFFFFTTT!!* *RAOW!!* Fun, fun FUN!!
(No boxes were damaged in the making of this post)
I don’t know about other “sins” that Matt has committed. But Matt’s decision to speak out often in favor of free, fair and verifiable elections by supporting the implementation of the TN Voter Confidence Act in 2010, as everyone but Tre Hargett and his flying monkey anti-democracy buddies wants, may have been the kiss of death. The fact that the DCRP has cancelled its monthly meetings (perhaps to keep this issue from being aired) suggests as much.
Keep on speaking truth to illegitimate power, Matt. You and others like you might just save the TN Grand Old party before it devolves completely into the TN/RICO party.
Is there anyone who truly believes that “status quo” is the route to better government?
IMHO, the GOP indeed needs some return to their original principles and if shaking them by their sorry throats (i.e. pointing out their corrupted ways) is their wake up call then so be it.
Rock on, Matt.
