TNVol, someone had to pay for Palin’s speaking fees. Someone had to put down a deposit to book the Opryland Hotel.

Really though, I’m just surprised that no one has cited this as proof of why we either do or don’t need a new convention center yet.

But Right now. Obama has done in 8 short months what it took GW Bush 8 years to do to the republican party.

The Tea party will support the Conservitive. we dont care what letter is on the chest of the conservitive, “D” “R” or “I”

The Tea Party will make are break which ever canidate is DOES NOT support.

Right now 58% say they will vote for the Republican in their district in 2010.

If the democrats do not drop obama socialism. their will be poltical ramifications for the democrat in 2010, just as there were for the Republicans in 2006 and 8.

    Hey TNV73.

    ‘Got some news for you.

The real TEA Parties in TN do not support this event happening in Nashville.

Real TEA Party people cannot buy $550.00 tickets so this will be a bunch of big wig republicans holding a fundraiser.

    Nothing more.
    Nothing less.

The fact that a few hardcore goopers are calling it a TEA Party convention is EXTREMELY misleading. Sarah Palin should pull out of it if she wants to maintain her “Maverick” status.

“Real Tea Party People” What constitutes a real tea party person. Who do you think tea partiers are, no teeth, no money and no brain?? You are very very wrong. Tea Party attendees believe in conservatism, responsible government, the Constitution, the right to be heard and represented… They are from all walks of life. They are people who actually know how to make money, pay their bills and understand the imperative need for independence and not a hand out.

Your also wrong on fundraising for “big wig Republicans” It is obvious you have no idea what your talking about.

Associated cost to putting on an event…. and… what is your point? Supplying a platform for a speaker you have invited with the intention of educating people, encouraging people, getting people involved… that is an issue because?

If you don’t like it and you don’t want to hear what a speaker has to say, whoever it is, then don’t go.

If your sitting around gripping and not getting involved then be quiet. If you want to get involved then find an organization you believe in.

    “Tea Party Nation”

Did the creators of that name realize it kind of sounds like “Log Cabin Republicans?”

    Probably not.

Interesting that TNVOL73 thinks liberals are afraid of Palin.

    They’re not.

They’ve already beaten her once, remember?

    She did not help McCain.

Her candidate in upstate NY got beat.

I know she’s a looker, but for God’s sake, what else does she have that you people think can win in a general election?

Sure, she could probably win a primary, but that’s the battle.

CONservatives are all hard about winning primaries and pushing the moderate Republicans out, but that will only mean you will lose the general, and that’s the war.

Neither Christie in NJ or McDonnell campaigned as libertarians or conservatives. They campaigned as moderates…and won. They campaigned on jobs and the economy, and those may lose their importance as key issues by 2010.

    The conservative in NY lost.

How hard is this…with the exception of TNVOL73?

  19. Elrod writes
    November 18th, 2009 10:49 pm

    TNV,
You do realize that a Democrat has won that district for the first time since 1850. That all the conservatives abandoned Dede for Hoffman is a sign of GOP implosion, not a message for both parties. Note that Bill Owens has already cast his first vote…for the Democratic health care bill. Dede would have almost certainly voted against it.

I have no doubt that many conservatives feel alienated from the GOP - and rightly so. Saying that the Dems spend more than the GOP did is little consolation if you’re a principled conservative. But you have to ask yourself why the Class of 1994 - and that’s who many of these defeated Republicans were - came to embrace big spending. And then you have to wonder if any of the Republicans who might get elected in 2010 would turn around and do the exact same thing as the last batch of Republicans.

In other words, the country is just not that moved by the Tea Party agenda. And if the Dems get the health care bill through - and the jobless rate starts to come down by middle of next year - the Democratic base will be out in full force to match the Tea Partiers.

I am truly amazed at the people who felt it necessary to respond to this announcement. Most of you can’t spell or print a clear thought and yet you oppose what Sarah Palen might have to say at a tea party. Why are you so threatened? Why are you so closed minded to the truth? Can’t you see where our country is headed and how we need someone who is trying to be honest and forthcoming. Sure she makes mistakes. I bet you do too. Why do you have one standard for her and another for yourselves? We desperately need help in this country and if we can find someone with some “balls” and sense to say no to the idiots in government I am all for it. I would love to attend that tea party to see what she has to say. I am willing to be open minded and give her a chance. Can you do the same?

Yeah TNvol, she’s reeally scaaary!! You’d better help get her on the Presidential ballot so all those communist socialist lefties will go running into their communes to hide! BTW, Hoffman was polling third when Dede withdrew, then took the lead, then lost it when voters got tired of hearing the teabagger crap while the Democrat talked about local issues. Obama in eight months has started to FIX what it took W eight years to screw up.

Davy, the Virginia guy was a conservative but his ads didn’t point that out. The democrat voters sat that one out. In NJ, nobody could stand Corzine, Bozo the Clown could have beat him.

I wonder if “Joe the Plumber” will come out for this teabagger fest. What a laugher! Keep ‘em coming! Make sure to beat “that RINO Crist” in the Florida Senate primary so we have another NY23 there next November.

Although it’s being billed as a National Tea Party Convention a closer examination would reveal something other than an event aimed at the grass roots movement. Not to mention that the $560 cost plus $110 per night, plus $18 a day parking, plus meals, plus cash bars, is a little much for this event. It is obviously geared for something other than the “we the people” tea party movement. This event is targeted to the self professed tea party leadership. In my opinion, all too many of these elitists’ are nothing more than carpet bagging opportunists riding on the back of “we the people”!! They have agendas that do not represent our interests. Most are seeking monetary gain, self serving power, or public office. When I posted on this subject yesterday the event website stated that a portion of the proceeds will go to fund their PAC. It now states that it will fund their non-profit conservative advocacy group. So what are they? Are they just playing with words to make it seen more palatable? Being a PAC is all well and good, however the history of this group that supposedly was formed as a grass roots activist organization (originally founded as a “for profit” corporation) makes one wonder who would be administering the PAC funds and to what purpose. It’s nothing more than a ning social network website. I don’t see any mechanism for input from the membership. So one could surmise that this event is simply to line the pockets of the founder of this organization, along with its self appointed Board of Directors. I can understand Palins’ involvement, who is really just on a book tour and will speak to most any group willing to pay the 100k speaking fee, but some of the other sponsors I am surprised that they would throw their hat in the ring for this type of event. Smart Girls is a stand up organization and I wonder if they did their due diligence before making this decision. I think that we the people should let these opportunists know that we will not support their efforts. I would suggest spending a little more $ and go to CPAC at the end of February and see not only Palin, but a whole host of movers and shakers in the conservative movement. CPAC is well established and recognized for their efforts and this Tea Party Nation outfit is just to suspect to put any stock into. Why would I want a small irrelevant group with no track record funneling my hard earned dollars into the campaigns of who knows who.

Tim Story you make a lot of sense sorry but the Repiblican Brand has been stolen by this group and Sarah Palin. You could see a lot of NY23’s happening across the country. Sarah doesn’t care about anyone but Sarah and her power grab. My beef with her and about her is how she treated John Mccain on the night she spoke about it being a Palin/McCain campaign and she even looked shocked that she blurted out what she was really thinking.

She has once again pulled a I can see Russia from my house ,when her quips to Sean Hannity who didn’t correct her. Iraq and Iran ,she got them so confused it was embrassing.

She is rollingout the Pep Talk express for people to buy a book and once they get into the book are they still going to support her? They are more ethics violations coming from the Republican Party In Ak ,more questions about her ethics and all this is coming from the AK Republican Party not from the Ak Democratic Party. No Billy-Bob — both Clinton and Obama have extremely STRONG educational credentials, unlike this classless act that quit 4 colleges when things got tough and ended up graduating from the 5th - in JOURNALISM. I know to you teabaggers, that is an accomplishment - a BA!! But to the rest of the world, we’d prefer our Presidents to have something more than just a BA. Why do you think she can’t answer any policy question? She is as dimwitted as you all are, hence the reason why you think she’s a “real” person. An anti-Semite and white supremacist using the name “Whites Forward” created the Tea Party Americans Coalition (TPAC) as “a working group for serious White racialist ACTIVISTS in the US who want to effectively coordinate our efforts and intervene for effect in Tea Party-type events.” Anti-Semitic, racist, and anti-immigrant themes run through the six issues on which the working group is based.

“Whites Forward” is hoping that TPAC will be the “genesis of our new White mass movement and the fertile womb for our pro-White political party.” He has called on other white supremacist groups to align themselves with the coalition, including the Council of Conservative Citizens, the Nationalist Coalition, David Duke’s EURO organization, and European Americans United.

    TPAC members include:

Don Black, well-known throughout the white supremacist and anti-Semitic community, both for his role as the founder and operator of Stormfront, and for his appearances and speeches at racist and anti-Semitic gatherings. Based in Florida, Black is a former Grand Dragon in the Ku Klux Klan who served prison time for plotting to invade the Caribbean island of Dominica and overthrow its government.

John Ubele, the Florida-based Operations Manager for the neo-Nazi Nationalist Coalition. A former member of the neo-Nazi National Alliance, Ubele was also a founding member of the Sons of Liberty Committee, a group whose stated goal was for “the interests of European Americans…to reign supreme in all deliberations and actions of our government.” Ubele also hosted “Radio with John Ubele,” a weekly radio program hosted on Stormfront.

Erich Gliebe, who heads the West Virginia-based National Alliance (NA), devoted a May 2009 Internet radio broadcast to recast the purpose of the Tea Parties as opportunities to unite the white race and motivate its members to action. Gliebe argued that white people have simply had enough of what he described as minorities relying on tax dollars to fund government programs. He explained that “middle class White Americans are finally protesting.”

White supremacist Billy Roper a Tea Party organizer in Arkansas

Billy Roper, who heads the white supremacist White Revolution group, based in Arkansas, is listed as an organizer on a Tea Party movement Web site. In a June 2009 post to the White Revolution blog, Roper claimed to be organizing a Tea Party in Arkansas and sending White Revolution “representatives who will be witnessing and converting lost souls at Tea Parties from North Carolina to Arizona.” [emphasis in original]

A May blog post revealed that White Revolution members will attend local Tea Party protests and distribute leaflets and flyers. Their goal will be to “educate, activate, and recruit.” The blog post encouraged readers to “plan to attend one to do your part for our race and nation!”

Succinctly titled “Why I Parted Ways With The Right,” Johnson’s post argues against the fanaticism of politicians like Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Pat Buchanan as well as the conservative blogosphere (”Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)”). He also cites the “anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide.” He concludes:

Tea-party style activism has taken some nutty turns before—the Hitler references, the Holocaust pictures. But Walter Fitzpatrick III may be about to push anti-Obama activism to new heights. On Tuesday, he plans to walk into the Monroe County courthouse in tiny Madisonville, Tennessee, and attempt to convince a local grand jury to indict the president on treason and fraud charges.

Fitzpatrick is one of those alternate-reality Americans who believe that Barack Obama is actually one Barry Soetoro, a man who is not an American citizen and thus ineligible to serve as president. Fitzpatrick claims that since March, he has been trying to get federal prosecutors in Tennessee to bring treason charges against the president. All that effort earned him, however, was a visit from the Secret Service.

But then Fitzpatrick evidently discovered that Monroe County has rather liberal rules about grand juries. In most places, only a local prosecutor can present evidence to a grand jury and request an indictment. In Monroe County, any private citizen can show up with a petition and seek an indictment. The most common initiators of such proceedings are usually victims of robberies or assaults, however, not activists trying to unseat the president.

Fitzpatrick tried this once already, filing a brief in late August that read, in part:

OBAMA-SOETORO IS MY SWORN ENEMY! - And as there were TRAITORS to Italy in Caesars day, I report to this GRAND JURY with force and authority there are senior military officers no more obedient to the CONSTITUTION than their criminal DICTATOR, OBAMA-SOETORO.

But the attempt didn’t go very well. JB Williams, a frequent contributor to the conservative website Town Hall and apparently something of an unofficial spokesman for Fitzpatrick, wrote that the local DA and the grand jury foreman threw Fitzpatrick out of court. (Fitzpatrick could not be reached for a response, and the district attorney was unavailable to comment on this account.)*

Fitzpatrick’s supporters frequently cite his status as a retired Navy lieutenant commander as proof of his integrity and patriotism. What they fail to mention is that in 1990 he was court-martialed for financial negligence, a move that essentially ended his military career. He runs a blog called JAG Hunters, and reportedly lives in Sweetwater, Tennessee. His website provides all the information activists need to file their own treason charges against Obama, and he invites people to copy him on their filings so that he can publicize their efforts. He lists seven others who’ve joined the crusade so far.

Fitzpatrick is hardly the first to attempt legal proceedings against Obama, but his scheme is unique in that it involves criminal allegations. Those challenging Obama’s citizenship in court have usually done so via civil suits (most of which have been thrown out by unsympathetic judges). Others have convened mock “citizens” grand juries to “indict” the president, sending the charging documents to local prosecutors in North Carolina and elsewhere. So far, no prosecutors have taken up the case.

Fitzpatrick is trying to appeal directly to the people through a grand jury comprised of average citizens who volunteer their time. Still, unless the jurors of Monroe County are truly rabid Obama haters, it seems unlikely that they will be persuaded—or that they even have the power to indict the president in the first place. Treason, after all, is a federal crime, not a county-level offense. When I asked a court employee whether the Monroe County grand jury has jurisdiction to indict a sitting president, she seemed rather baffled: “I wouldn’t think so. That would not go before a local court.” She observed that the grand jury won’t issue any decision on the case until December 7. But for any real criminal charges to go forward, the local district attorney would have to agree to take up the case, a move that any sane prosecutor would be reluctant to make.

Still, the futility of Fitzpatrick’s enterprise hasn’t deterred self-declared “patriots” across the country from rallying around the news of his testimony and planning caravans to descend on Madisonville to lend moral support. The Tennessee chapter of Sons of Liberty Riders, for instance, will be convening at the Sweetwater Comfort Inn at 7 a.m. before riding their choppers to the courthouse.

The planned rally came as a big surprise to courthouse employees. When I told one staffer about the caravan, she was shocked, noting that Madisonville was a tiny place where not much ever happens. She exclaimed, “Maybe we should tell the restaurant across the street!”

*UPDATE: James Stutts, the Monroe County District Attorney, left a message Monday night saying that in fact, Fitzpatrick testified for two hours before the grand jury in August and the jury declined to bring any charges based on his testimony. He also disputes Fitzpatrick’s characterization of that appearance and says the former Navy man was not physicially restrained in any way nor was he forced from the courtroom.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine said Thursday that the tea party movement is “devouring” the Republican Party and is already proving “corrosive” in key GOP primaries.

Speaking at the 11th annual American Democracy Conference hosted by the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics and POLITICO, Kaine argued that while the “headwind” may be against Democrats heading into 2010, divisions within the GOP will prove deadly to the Republican brand.

“The tea party movement is devouring the GOP,” he said. “It is something that we expect to see going forward.”

Kaine pointed to last month’s special House election in New York’s 23rd District — where Democrat Bill Owens ended up winning a long-held Republican seat because of divisions between supporters of Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman and GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava — as exemplifying what he anticipates will happen in future Republican primaries.

“We are already seeing some pretty corrosive primaries in the Texas governor’s race, the Florida governor’s race,” he said. Kaine added that there is a “corrosive and consistent fight” within what he referred to as “the tea bag party.”

“On the Republican side, we see a party that is narrowing geographically, narrowing ideologically and narrowing demographically,” the DNC chairman said.

While Kaine contended that some of the already bloody primaries on the Republican side will hurt the GOP, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) insisted that, as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he is looking forward to tough primary battles to ensure that the best GOP candidates emerge to challenge Democrats.

Cornyn conceded that “there has been a lot of talk about whether the party is going to be divided by the tea party movement,” but he dismissed any potential negative impact the movement could have on Republican primaries.

Like Kaine, Cornyn pointed to New York’s 23rd District, where he said the lack of a primary process allowed Democrats to win the upstate district for the first time in more than 100 years. The selection of Scozzafava by local leaders to be the GOP candidate sparked outrage among conservatives distrustful of her moderate record.

“We can’t let that happen, so we have to have a robust primary so that our strongest candidate becomes our nominee,” he said.

Looking at the field, Cornyn said he was “enormously encouraged” by some of the candidates stepping forward on the Republican side. Cornyn singled out Republican Senate candidates Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Mark Kirk in Illinois, Jane Norton in Colorado, Carly Fiorina in California and Rob Simmons in Connecticut.

In ticking off his list of premier candidates, Cornyn mentioned both Republicans competing in Florida’s divisive Senate primary — Gov. Charlie Crist, whom the NRSC endorsed in May, and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio, an emerging star in the conservative movement and among tea party activists.

The Tea Party Movement is about to be hijacked. TPN or TeaPartyNation.com organizers are hard lined GOP who use the proverbial veil of “conservatism” to attract supporters.

They also own and are having the National Tea Party Convention soon and are trying to put a face on it and disguise it as “our” convention. Not only that but they have decided to hold it at a ritzy over the top and outrageously expensive Opryland Hotel in Tennessee! When most of us are the working middle class and in the middle of economic hard times it’s just ridiculous!

This is where the grassroots tea party revolution will be hijacked by the GOP. TPN is owned by an attorney named Judson Phillips and through his trained and careful wording believes they have started the tea party movement, of course without saying as much.

They will attempt to consolidate all tea parties and be the ones in charge and leading the direction. If the other independent tea party groups give TPN any more importance, power or control of their direction then the true grass roots movement will die and have been for nothing. I would be very cautious about signing anything from TPN or just skip the convention all together.

Here’s how they answer questions to new members asking before deleting their accounts.

“Yes, can TPN please clarify their principals? I see the word “conservative principals” being used often and many broad generalizations. Can you please clarify the goal of TPN? Is the goal to revolutionize the system in a true diverse conservative grassroots takeover? Or do you plan to just get rid of the “RINO’s” and return to the “roots” and support towing the party line of the GOP?

Just a little concerned because those “roots” from both parties seem to get “uprooted” every few years and nothing ever changes. So can you please clarify your stance and be specific please? If you do not plan on reviving the hard nosed party line policies of the GOP, can you please explain what stances you’d approach differnetly and why? Thanks”

Sherry Phillips (owners wife) welcome to TPN, please click the FAQ page to read what TPN stands for.

Judson Phillips(owner) Welcome, please browse the comments and discussions and you will find your answer.

(me)Yes I have read the FAQ’s and read some discussions. I do not want to rely on the opinions of your members in informal discussions. I am looking for a straight forward honest answer from the leaders and organizers of TPN before I choose to get involved and active.

I am expecting an answer like a neighbor would give vs. a politician unable to give a simple answer. I think that’s fair, here are the questions your FAQ page raises for me. Can you please clarify? Your time is appreciate, thanks.

    What Is The TPN?

“Tea Party Nation is a group of like-minded individuals who believe in our God given Individual Freedoms written out by the Founding Fathers. We believe in Limited Government, Free Speech, the Second Amendment, our Military, Secure Borders and our Country!”

Saying that you believe in Limited Government, Free Speech, the Second Amendment, our Military, Secure Borders and our Country is certainly conservative, but is very broad as it is also not only conservative values but GOP values as well.

What Are The Goals of TPN?

“It is our hope that Tea Party Nation helps its members focus on ideas, solutions and actions to help one another in this fight against liberalism and the reach of an ever-expanding government who has ignored the will of “We the People” for far too long.”

Ok, I understand the fight against liberalism and the reach of an ever-expanding government that ignores the will of the people. Doesn’t this include the GOP equally the same as the left?

What Is The Plan Of TPN?

“We hope to provide the tools and communication necessary for organizing against a government who has stopped listening to the people who put them in office. We want to help our members take those who are unresponsive to “We the People” out of office and replace them with those who hold Conservative values.”

Again, many who hold “conservative values” are the GOP who are equally as guilty to being unresponsive to the will of the people.

TPN’s response: They banned my account. Nice.
