Posted on November 16, 2009 at 3:39 pm

From Richard Locker:

In a “worst-case scenario” next year, Tennessee state government could face a $1.5 billion budget gap between non-discretionary spending needs and the tax revenue available to pay for it, Gov. Phil Bredesen said today.

All government spending is “discretionary” if we are still governed by a democratic republic form of government in which the people, through their elected representatives, set policy for their state.

Well, in the real world we know what Bredesen means. ;)

Also, let’s remind that the state senate and house are in the hands of the GOP, so ‘redefinition’ is in ya’lls court - think it will happen?

Then why don’t you refuse to accept any government funding of any sort, regardless of how remote. Oh, I guess that would mean you couldn’t drive on interstates, call the police or the fire department. If you could figure that out, document it, no one would have a problem with you not paying taxes since you would not be accepting any government subsidized services.

    ditto head

    1. Interstates are FEDERAL not state funded roads

    2. Police are LOCAL not state Funded

    3. Firedepartments are LOCAL not state funded

    4. This is the wonderful thing about SALES taxes, everyone that uses state and local services PAY TAXES to fund them.

    Unlike an Income tax..

According to your logic if TN had an income tax. The many of the inner city would receive NO STATE or LOCAL services. Because in an income tax structure they would not be paying taxes.

So on the Federal level then you believe that the Poor should not recieve any federal services because they do not pay taxes.

That is your standard according to your post:

    TNVolunteer73;
Interstates are a joint venture with Federal Gasoline Tax $ & Local funds; the State maintains them after built with participation by the Feds.
The State Police, DPS, THP are funded by the State not Local funding.
From dittoheads post, I don’t see where the rest of your rant re income tax, poor not getting services, etc. are brought up in his post.
A graduated income tax assures everyone pays a fair share.
The State & Local Governments need taxes to pay for the services they offer. They’re going to get that one way or another; I’ve never seen so much nickle & dimeing for petty things as in TN.
I’d suggest you take a class in macroeconomics before you profess to speak as an expert.
