Next Time, They’ll Be On Tape

Posted on November 11, 2009 at 9:28 pm

Joe Lance explains how a gubernatorial campaign came to dispute, long after the fact, an interview he did with their candidate:

If I misinterpreted, and erroneously published, Mr. McWherter’s earlier remarks, I sincerely apologize.

I plan to use a fully disclosed digital recording device in future interviews.

The story remains a little muddled, but I have learned some things. Hopefully voters have as well.

I love that the first thing you see when you open up Post Politics is Stacy Campfield’s wrestler mask. I hope you keep that up for a while.

1.) You should have been using a recording device in the first place. That is common sense. I thought that based on the conviction with which you issued your statement/post about Mike McWherter’s position on gay adoption you had something to back it up. Clearly you did not.

2.) Backhanded apologies for false statements and shoddy reporting are not exactly apologies. For future reference a simple, “I’m sorry” will be just fine.

4.) The voters of Tennessee have learned something…….not to use your “findings” or blog as a point of reference.

    Thanks,
    The Voters of Tennessee

Again, this whole interview took place a month ago, and the statement was confirmed by the Nashville Scene. If either of them were wrong, the McWherter campaign has had several weeks and opportunities to correct the record.
