Thanking Coop For His Health Reform Vote
By Kleinheider Posted on November 9, 2009 at 10:24 amNashville, TN-Coalition members of Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – will be visiting Representative Cooper’s office on Church Street in Nashville at 11 AM to thank the Congressman for his historic vote in favor of passing the House of Representative’s health care bill – the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962).
“The Congressman’s vote on Saturday night was a vote for strong insurance reform measures. Our health care insurance system is broken and badly needs reform. Congressman Cooper did not want his vote to kill reform and send the wrong message to the Senate. The Congressional process for passing a bill must continue,” says Tony Garr, Executive Director of the Tennessee Health Care Campaign, a coalition member of HCAN. “Now that the House has passed its bill, the Senate must now act,” says Garr.
On Monday, coalition members will be thanking the Congressman in person for voting to keep reform on track for passing this year and letting him know how much they appreciate his helping them win a guarantee of good, affordable health care for all this year.
WHO: Coalition Members – Change That Works, HCAN, Tennessee Health Care Campaign, SEIU, Tennessee Justice Center, and the Tennessee Disability Coalition.
WHAT: Visit to Congressman Cooper’s Office
WHERE: Church Street, Nashville, TN
WHEN: Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, 11 AM

I am thanking him by supporting his opponent in the next election.
Jimmy, thanks but no thanks,
I am thanking him by saying Thanks but not thanks.
I will I have supported him since I have moved into his district in 2000. No longer.
Cooper is spineless.
Thanks Congressman for doing your part to progress the on-going debate for health care reform. I’m going to wait until after conference to make up my mind. I’m sure you are too.
If TNVolunteer73 supported Cooper before, that proves that Cooper has been a DINO until now. Thank God Cooper finally stood for his base instead of pandering to wingnuts.
Common Sense,
No it proves that Cooper was a conservitive.
I am not a Republican…. I am and Independent.
The last time I voted R was in 1984 I was a “Reagan Democrat”.. I did not vote for GWH BC or GW
Fire Cooper in 2010 !!
Maybe next time he’ll also vote pro-choice and against Stupak?
What was he thinking on the Stupak amendment? If he is pro-life, we ought to defeat him. A health care supporting, pro-choice congressman or woman would be better.
Thank you Rep. Cooper for voting to move toward progress and away of from “just say no.” I am not happy with the entire bill, but I respect Rep. Cooper voting for the principle of progress. If you truly understand our political system and history, you will know that nothing is ever permanent or final, and that perfect never comes. Rep. Cooper is a member of Congress who actually read the bill so that he could weight pro’s and con’s. I believe he decided that the party and attitudes of the “No” has got to go.
Rep. Cooper has taken a step in the right direction for Tennesseans and all of Americans. I respect the complexity of what we are dealing with. I appreciate that he does too. We may not always see eye to eye, but we’ve got some tough stuff to deal with. Its time to face one another and work it out. We’ve got a long way to go, but I stand in awe of how far we’ve come.
Kudos to Congressman Cooper for making the hard decision to support the Health Care reform bill. It’s not exactly what he wanted. It’s not exactly what I wanted. It’s probably not exactly what anyone wanted. But it’s a big improvement over the status quo. Now he and we need to encourage the Senate to make it better and pass their version so we can get on to a conference committee and get a final bill passed by the end of the year.
Thank you Congressman Cooper, for standing up for your constituents who could really benefit from this bill. While I am fortunate enough to have insurance, one can never predict the future. Many of us who have insurance now may one day benefit from the Medicaid expansions. This bill is definitely a step in the right direction. Thank you!
Jim Cooper made the right decision on health reform, and I urge him to continue to support the process. His yes vote reflects the will of the majority of the people in the 5th District, and it also reflects the moral and economic imperative that health reform represents. Thank you, Congressman, for supporting the nation’s future!
Rep Cooper is a principled and thoughtful legislator. I do not always agree with him, but I know he is paying attention. Especially on health care issues. I am grateful for his vote to move the debate on health care reform ahead. Reform is necessary. Change around the edges will not work. Health reform does represent a moral and economic imperative. i appreciate my neighbors who recognize that an “I’ve got mine” attitude does not reflect the best of America.
Thank you Rep. Cooper for voting for health reform. The bill is not perfect. No bill will be. It is a step in the right direction. I soon will have Medicare so I know that I will have health insurance coverage as long as I need it. I want everyone who lives in the United States to have that same kind of guarantee. Your vote on the house bill makes me want you to remain my congressman.
Cooper did the right thing. No one is served by letting this conversation and debate fade away. Of course there are legitimate concerns about the cost and administration of such a large program, but there are also equally important concerns about the way our current health care system treats its patients. As an individual with great health coverage provided by my job, I applaud Rep. Cooper for moving this debate forward and keeping the potential for real health care reform alive.
Thank you, Congressman Cooper, for making the right choice and voting for health care reform. I’m sure that for every negative comment you hear about this decision, there are many more District 5 residents who are happy with this decision, but who don’t have a voice due to disability or lack of resources. I hope you will continue to support healthcare reform -as you konw, our current system badly needs improvement.
Thank you so much for your positive contribution to the effort to save so many American lives. The critics may be vociferous but there are so many voiceless Tennesseans who will benefit from health care reform. Please continue to do the right thing and support health care reform. This is a chance to help millions and truly serve Tennesseans and Americans.
