Can A Senator Brian Kelsey Be Prevented?
By Kleinheider Posted on November 8, 2009 at 9:01 pmSteve Steffens thinks it can and wonders why the state Democratic party isn’t helping:
While the GOP establishment in Nashville loves Kelsey, the rank and file aren’t that smitten with him here. In short, he is not even close to being a lock for election on December 1.
Part of the reason for that is Democratic nominee Adrienne Pakis-Gillon, who has been walking all over the district for the past month, with an ever-growing team of supporters. This is a winnable race, which begs a serious question:
Considering that A) EVERY Senate and House seat is critical in preventing a complete GOP takeover of the General Assembly, which will lead to Democrats losing up to three seats in Congress from Tennessee and B) we have a chance to end Brian Kelsey’s political career before he damages anything else, why the hell has the TNDP essentially told Adrienne that they aren’t going to help her?
UPDATE: Betsy Phillips has a few thoughts as well.

it seems that LWC is as blinded by ideology as many republicans I know. I only wish the state party was as blind and sent as much money as they could to waist in this effort.
As much as I’d like to see a Pakis-Gillon win, it ain’t gonna happen. The ground game will determine who wins, and the local GOP has the advantage.
Keep in mind that there’s also a special primary election that same day for Stuntbaby’s House seat. It’s a competitive primary on the GOP side. The Democrats only have one candidate running.
LWC -
Nice try. You’ve got the same mentality as the South Nashville crowd. You should really jump out of your bubble sometime. There’s a whole big world out there.
You’re still wet behind the ears, Matthew, and you know nothing about Shelby County.
I have worked on several races in Shelby County, and I look at the numbers often enough to distinguish fact from fantasy.
I took a look at Pakis-Gillon’s website. Nice site, but it raises some questions. She’s a reasonably attractive candidate on the surface, but her mention of being a “community host” for the The Big Green Bus, “a vegetable powered bus, touring the country to promote climate awareness and energy savings and environmental friendly issues,” marks her as a sucker for stupid liberal feel-good environmental posturing.
Also, note the language she uses re the state income tax: It is weasel words designed to trick one side and give a wink-and-nod to the other.
She says, “On a state income tax: Governor Bredesen has proven we can manage the state’s finances responsibly with the present tax system. I will work for a fair tax system for all Tennesseans and Tennessee businesses that makes the state as competitive as possible with other states.”
Let us parse those words: She praises Gov. Bredesen’s management of the state’s finances under the current tax code, which is meant to make you think she opposes a state income tax. But she NEVER says so explicitly. Instead, she states that she will work for “a fair tax system” - code words for the pro-income tax crowd.
Where does she really stand on the state income tax? You can’t know. Her site is deliberately written to avoid telling the truth - because if she is against it, she offends progressive dems whose money she desperately needs. But if she is for it, she offends most of the Republicans who are, after all, the majority in her district.
At least she does mention the issue.
You can’t find a word on her site indicating where she stands on abortion and SJR 127. The people of the district deserve to know whether she is pro-life or pro-abortion.
Or hosting the Big Green Bus could mean it was a school project from the college her daughter attends and as a parent she helped out by offering the students a place to stay.
How cute. Hobbs thinks he’s relevant.
I think I’m going to devote the remainder of my time on Earth to electing pro-income tax representatives in Tennessee. Not because I really want one, in fact, I really couldn’t care less. No, I just want to watch Republicans squirm. You people are freaking obsessed.
Kelsey’s campaign manager is the same one that ran Jerome Cochran’s failed campaign against Kent Williams so anything is possible.
Hey Kelseys Campaign mgr, thanks for Kent Williams.
You suck!!!!
It’s hard to tell who is more deluded, LeftieQuacker or B-Ho. Both think they know everything.
Good luck winning that seat, Leftie.
