Lamar Just About Says Speaker Williams Should Be Reinstated As A Republican

Posted on November 7, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Erik Schelzig reports:

“My suggestion was they all might remember the parable of the prodigal son, which had a happy ending because the son came home and he was embraced,” Alexander told reporters after a brief speech. “I think that’s about as far as I’ll go.”

The prodigal son realized the error of his ways. Kent Williams has shown no remorse for the personal power play he made to benefit himself. Kent is what people hate about politics–those who are in it for their own personal gain. Shame on him!

Gavin, my thought exactly. If he had admitted wrong doing or showed some sense of remorse, he could be let back in. Williams is all about Williams, plain and simple.

And will someone please explain why the same people are in positions that typically go to the party in power. Burney is a huge Dem and he is still the Clerk in the House. In fact, just by looking at the House staff, you would think that Naifeh was still running things.

Has he said he will vote for the Republican nominee even if he was not it? No. (I wouldn’t trust him if he did)

Has he said he will appoint Republicans to chair all committees and be in the majority like Democrats have Done for decades? No.

Then why should Republicans bend over for him? 51 makes him useless.

Let him prove his loyalty to the party by voting for the party nominee next year. If he does then let him in. If not, nothing lost.

The prodigal son repented and returned subserviently.

Not so for Kent. He just wants back so he can win election then it is back to same old same old.

    LOL … I love it!
Oh, and btw - what people hate are those who put party above people and worry more about pissing off leadership than whatever bill is being posted.
Kent forgot to wash Jason Mumps toes first, oh woe is the republic!!! ;)

Mikey–Since you are obviously a liberal/Democrat, why don’t you worry about sorting out your own mess of Chipper, Naifeh, Odom, and Turner fighting for power and control.

Kent Williams didn’t have to wash the Majority Leader’s feet, but he should not have lied. He lied his way to a personal, self-serving powergrab. And, he keeps lying. He recently told multiple lies to a group of Republicans in Memphis. Kent never did anything to help the Republicans gain the majority (unless you count funding Democrats and Republican members’ primary challengers) yet he wants the reward.

BTW, Alex is right. Kent has kept Democrat staffers in place with their big, fat salaries and perks while leaving the Republicans who helped make him possible out in the cold.

Gavin - I don’t have ‘my own mess’ because I don’t really care about all that. I”m concerned about trying to move this state forward in the face of B.S. GOP fealty that doesn’t take anything into account except blind partisanship. If state Dems were in the same mode - everything for party - we wouldn’t be watching to see how the state’s ‘blue dogs’ are gonna vote. In other words, unlike the state GOP, blind loyalty is not as important as voting conscience and constituency. Meaning, of course, what’s good for the goose is not always good for the gander. In GOPland, of course, kiss the ring of Godfather Reagan and kiss the ass of Robin Smith, or you ain’t fit to be one of us, son - and THAT, is B.S., dear Gavin.

Hmmm… wonder if Lamar’s read the parable of the Good Samaritan. Sure seems like he’s leaving 47 million Americans bleeding on the side of the road.

Kent is the most conservative speaker we have had in a generation and the Republicans don’t want him. This is so stupid.

Common sense, I can use bible stories as well. Like the one where it says if you give a man a fish he’ll eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish he will never go hungry again.

Once again, Williams only cares about himself and that is enough reason to not support him. Self serving politicians are a HUGE problem and has led to many of the issues we are facing today.

Demo staffers are still in place because they were already trained & it didn’t cost the taxpayers a dime to try new people. His staffers are right now more loyal to him than anyone could be. ASK THEM if they like working better for Williams than Naifeh? You’ll hear a resounding YES. Also, don’tcallmemikey is right on the mark. These hypocritical Republicans (I AM A REPUBLICAN ALSO) are just like me in the fact that I would like to see in DC the same set up for us that Williams did for the DEMO’s in Nashville. It is the shape of the world in government to come. Both parties should have positions according to the percentage of numbers in the government. All Republican chairman makes us just as bad as the Democrats. WE should be the party of choice because we are fair, honest and focused on our agenda. Republicans like Robin Smith and her ilk are killing the Republican party in Tennessee. And for God’s sake, Williams in this for himself? Why in the world would he put up with the abuse to him and his family this year if he were only in it for himself. You people can’t see past your noses. If you don’t think 95% of the Republicans in the House wouldn’t have taken the same deal, you are living in a dream world.

Say what you want about Senator Lamar Alexander. He has never had in his heart and his work except the best interests of the people in Tennessee and the Republican party. He may not always vote to please every single one of us, but neither is anyone else. I trust that he votes how he deems necessary to accomplish the larger agenda of the party. Sometimes you have to compromise which is what you closed minded far-right Republicans can’t seem to comprehend. I wish you all would all become Liberterians and leave the Republican party alone.

  14. Rick writes

And one more thing, just because a staffer was hired under a Democratic majority, doesn’t make them a Democrat. Considering it has been a Democratic majority for more than a 140 years, they can’t all be Democrats. As usual, your closed minded rhetoric doesn’t even comprehend that fact. I’d hate to be married to any of you since you have no concept of compromise.

Some of you act like Kent is doing this for the good of the state. Yet no one seems to mention his $80 grand a year extra salary.

No one mentioned him giving Naifeh a an $80 grand a year “assistant” even though he is now just a regular legislator.

No one seems to say what was able to be passed because of Kent in excess of what could have been passed if Republicans were in charge.

Because there is nothing extra. Nothing.

    Rick,

Where were you when Naifeh and his Democrats ran the entire show?

    Silent I bet.

Always with the Naifeh — ay yi yi … You know, time does pass - and running government is too big a responsibility to be trying to even scores all the time. Who cares where Rick was then, or now - its up to the state legislators like ‘Superboy’ Mumpower to put on their big boy underwear and act responsibly.

And how has Mumpower been irresponsible? He has done nothing but try keep Kent Williams from looking like a moron.

The metaphor (or whatever it is…) of the Prodigal Son doesn’t hold up. Sorry, Senator.

Just because the dad kills the fatted calf and throws a welcome home party doesn’t mean that he opens him a new trust fund and gives him back the keys to the BMW.

Speaker ex-post-facto Williams is going to be like the 35yo wakin’ and bakin’ in mom and dad’s basement or living under the I-40 bridge, the choice is his.

Lamar has not had the interest of TN since he left as governor. In his mind, he thinks of himself as being president. He has not done much as senator. I remember when our senators gave of money for the best roads in the country plus everything that made TN great. I can’t find anything that lamar or Cocker has done for TN.

The Naifeh era is gone……………..UNLESS we Republicans keep fighting amongst ourselves and allow them back in the door. As long as there are negative posts as above, you can bet your sweet a** the democrats will be back in charge and we will have lost the best chance in a century to become leaders. The Republicans we have now are better than any Democrats that we may get to replace them. Stop fighting and come together.
