Politico Puts Bart Gordon On Notice

Posted on November 5, 2009 at 1:34 pm

From Jonathan Allen:

Gordon’s one of a growing list of Democratic lawmakers who are likely to have a serious challenge for the first time in a long time in 2010. Though Sen. John McCain won his district with 62 percent of the vote in the 2008 presidential race, Gordon, the chairman of the House Science and Technology Committee, voted with Democrats on “party unity” votes 90 percent of the time in the previous Congress, according to CQ.

Lou Ann Zelenik, who just resigned her post as a county party chairwoman, is vying for the right to face Gordon next November. Gordon told POLITICO that the results in Virginia and New Jersey could have a chilling effect on Democratic politics, including the health care legislation working its way through Congress.

“It definitely slows down the Democratic momentum,” Gordon said.

Your right he should vote yes on one of the most important pieces of legislation of our time.

    The Conservitives Healthcare Reform plan.

Which keeps government out of our healthcare.

No, TNVol, it keeps the INSURANCE COMPANIES out of your healthcare decisions. And from rejecting you for pre-existing conditions. And from denying claims. And from overcharging people. And for taking 30 cents of every one of your dollars spent on healthcare (while “big government” does it for 3 cents).

Your dumb ass doesn’t even know who the bad guy is and for that I feel sorry for you.

TN Vol, You give good and intelligent responses for the most part and sometimes you are stating your response in an education fashion, but GOVERNMENT IS ALREADY INVOLVED IN HEALTH CARE!! Medicare, medicaid, s-chip, coverTN, The V.A, the insurance that Congress has right now! Come On, don’t give me the Bachmann talking points. i assume you are better than that!

Oh TnVol knows, he’s just that cynical. He can’t possibly be that stupid.

Bart’s no genius and his record is so-so but against a nutbag like Lou Ann he looks like Honest Abe.

Has the congressman been watching Fox “News?” I suppose so, if he really expressed concern over the GOP winning the gubernatorial seats in VA and NJ. Slowing down momentum? Seriously? Does that mean “Blue Dog” Bart won’t be there to welcome Tuesday’s two U.S. congressional victors ~ two Democrats who took Republican seats? Unlike the new govs, those two members of congress will begin casting votes in January. Hopefully, they’ll vote as true Democrats and not as Blue Dog Republicrats.

I just want someone to replace Gordon. Please let’s get a good person in this seat - preferably one with conservative values who will make positive changes.

If Gordon were to do his job and vote the way the MAJORITY of his constituency feels, he would not vote for this train-wreck of a health care plan. Our country is on its way to be ruined by this Marxist administration and Congress. All of our children will be the ones who pay for this atrocity.

No one should run unopposed especially a democrap, which he did last time.

Bart Gordon is toast if he votes with the BHO, NP, and the other Marxist Dems. Too early to know who will run in opposition, but with engaged opposition here in his district, it will be a strong person.

I was in hopes the Republicans would come forth with
a plan that seemed more reasonable. They have come
forth with virtually a status quo which reminds me of
why I’m an independent. Dems want to eat the elephant in one bite, Repubs want to eat the elephant
one mouse bite at a time. Folks, we’ve got a problem
    in D.C.

Bart must vote against the rule and for Stupak/Pitts. He represents a strong pro life district and we have his number. A vote for the Rule will be his death knell.

Gordon voted for the Hate Crimes bill, which is now law, which takes away our freedom of speech, and eventually leads the the way for the elimination of all of our other freedoms. He has lost my vote and I say bring on the strongest candidate who will rid us of him.

Congress predicted medicid would be at 12 billion in 2000 when they put it into effect. It’s at like 65 billion. These guys have no clue what they’re doing. Bottom line…this is unconstitutional.

If you have insurance, then you have a problem. I have Blue Cross, and they pay very little. I do not know how they get away with it, but they do. They just refuse to pay. We have to do sometning to reign the insurance companies in, and the only thing that will do tbis is a public option. You can’t tell me that the GOP is happy with their insurance conpany. They have already said that they plan on raising premiums and cover less.

Healthcare companies make about 3% net profit. Not exactly stellar. Putting everyone on government healthcare will ensure that we all get the most basic care and treatments for more advanced diseases, such as cancer, will take longer and longer to get treatment as the budgets are slashed over the next few decades. This is not constitutional. Soon we will be told how to spend all of our money. They get half of my money as it is…for now.

The government is already a significant payer for healthcare. The government sets the prices it will pay for Medicare/Medicaid and medicaid waver patients. The insurance companies negotiate their reimbursement rates in general to be as close to the lowest price government reimbursement rates as possible.

The government has continued to try to control costs on the 40%-50% of healthcare it pays for already and cannot do it. In part because of the fraud and abuse, mainly abuse of the system (CAN ANYBODY SAY TENNCARE.) And the government has had no stomach for raising the tax rates on Medicare recipients (the equivalent of raising rates on private insurance purchasers.)

The 50%-60% private pay sector has seen skyrocketing insurance rate increases by insurance companies. So if insurance companies only retain 3% profit (or surplus for the non-profits like the Blue Cross of TN’s of the world)
then Controlling the Costs of care seems to be where reform should focus.

Cause nobody wants to pay the prices that are being charged for the healthcare we receive. But guess what. . .the new government run option will eliminate the government’s lack of willingness to raise taxes to pay for it. THE NEW BILL DOES NOT CONTROL COSTS, it just opens the gates to take as much tax revenue as is needed to pay for whatever anybody can scam the government out of. . . which is A LOT. Just look back at TENNCARE. And we are a state filled with skilled healthcare professionals with a healthcare expert governor!

There is great wisdom in a balanced public/private system like we have now. Not all the eggs are in one basket, and with a little intelligent work, Congress could accomplish all of its stated healthcare objectives without socializing the entire system. But socializing is the objective here. Not reducing costs.

It has been contemplated that great societies begin their final descent when the entire population expects unlimited benefits from the common public treasury. Here we go America.
