Cultural Exchange
By Kleinheider Posted on November 5, 2009 at 7:20 amThe latest from Nolensville Road:
Colombian jeans — commonly called “butt lifting” jeans — are touted as jeans that raise your derriere naturally, without fillers or rods. The jeans are wildly popular among Latinas and are sold at several stores in the Nolensville Road area.
Olivia Lopez, owner of Salon de Belleza Olivia’s, said customers started walking into her store about two months ago asking if she carried the jeans. She had never heard of them, but now she stocks them and wears them herself.
“I’m 42, so I need them,” Lopez joked. “As you get older, everything starts to sag.”
While most jeans are flat in the rear, Colombian jeans have a built-in pouch that provides plenty of fanny room and a fuller shape. Also, the material has some stretch to it, which helps to make the whole area look firmer.
There are several brands of Colombian jeans, such as Pomp Up, Blue Girl and Miel Y Canela, among others. They typically cost about $45.
For women who spend their lives dieting to make their rears look smaller, the puzzling question is, why would you want to buy clothing that makes your booty look bigger?
“I think because of our men,” Lopez admits. “They want to see a butt. The more of us to grab, the better.”
