TNGOP Congratulates Republican Victors In VA And NJ

And reminds everyone about Pat Marsh:

“Last night’s results are even more proof that Americans are rejecting the liberal policies being pushed by Democrats across the country,” said Devaney. “Here in Tennessee we saw first-hand a shift to the right when Republican Pat Marsh swept a State House seat out from under generations of Democrat control and did it by a wide 15-point margin. Now we’ve seen it in Virginia and New Jersey. Of course Democrats are going to do everything they can to downplay these significant victories, but the fact remains that as we move closer to 2010, voters are consistently signaling their discontent with Democrats and are looking for more conservative candidates that want to limit government and protect taxpayer dollars. I’d like to congratulate Governors-elect McDonnell and Christie on their victories last night and I know both will serve their states well.”

And Democrats to downplay these victories in 5… 4… 3… 2…

Yes, kudos to the Virginia and New Jersey Republican Parties!

I couldn’t help but notice, no one in the GOP is gloating about what happened in Maine. I’d like to think that they realize on some deep level, they realize that there’s nothing pro-liberty or pro-individual about taking people’s rights away, rights they already had. But that requires you to assume depth.

I notice Devaney doesn’t mention Bill Owens’ win in upstate NY - the only real upset in yesterday’s election.

Owens is the first Democrat EVER elected to that seat and it happened as a direct result of the GOP civil war going on all over the country. The radical conservative - with help from Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck - lost an inpregnable Republican seat to a Democrat because they drove the moderates out of their party.

Meanwhile, in VA and NJ, it was MODERATE Republicans who were able to beat Democratic candidates who had failed to motivate their own base.

In any case, there is a connection between what happened yesterday in NY, NJ, VA, and in District 62 with Pat Marsh (a former Democrat). That connection is that moderate Republicans can still win elections and right-wingers cannot except in districts that are already overwhelmingly Republican. Devaney and the TNGOP ought to keep that lesson in mind as they consider supporting Lou Ann Zelenik, Zach Wamp, or Ron Ramsey next year.

Not to “downplay” things too much, but the only two national races on the stage last night went to Democrats. Of those two races, one was for a Congressional seat that was solidly Republican, while the other was for a seat that was solidly Republican before the exiting, Democratic incumbent won it. (And the Dem who won it? More liberal than that ex-incumbent.)

Not a consistent lurch to the right, if you ask me.

The democrats held a state house seat down in southwest Alabama last night. Except for a year back in late ‘05 when the GOP won the seat in a 3 way fluke special election. The seat had been controlled by democrats since the civil war. The GOP got close, the final vote had Elaine Beech(D) defeating Jerry Reed(R) by a 53-47% advantage.
