Titans Of Industry

The local pro-football franchise likes the idea of a new convention center:

The Tennessee Titans front office today announced its support for the Music City Center, the proposed state of the art downtown convention center . Team leaders cite an expanded fan base stimulated by the Music City Center plus the economic development opportunities and jobs for the larger community as reasons for backing the project.

Let’s see: If the NFL knows how to do anything, it knows how to make cash money — win, lose or draw. If the Almighty Bud is endorsing this deal, then I assume it’s going to return some benefit to the downtown economy.

I don’t think that Vince Young should be focusing on the convention center. He should be focusing on winning more football games.

Eventually, Gaylord, CEO Colin Reed and their puppets (like Emily Evans, Mike Jameson, and Kevin Sharp) will have to explain why the oppose economic development for downtown Nashville. Why do they oppose jobs? Why do they oppose new business? Why do they oppose new tax revenue?

Vince Young doesn’t know a convention center from a Foot Locker. But billionaire Bud has been cashing checks since before most of us were born. Good investment/sound return? Bud sayeth “yes.”

I guess I’ll hold my breath waiting for Aunt B. to spring to my defense.
