Republican Liberty Caucus Speaks Out In Support Of Matt Collins
Posted on November 3, 2009 at 7:44 amAn organization devoted to promoting liberty inside the GOP has come out against the Davidson County GOP for attempting to oust their Ron Paul-supporting First Vice Chair:
Collins was informed that he will face a hearing where a two-thirds majority can remove him from his post. This effort to remove Collins has been engineered by a faction within the county party which includes some former Democrats and moderate Republicans. Davidson became Vice-Chair of the Davidson County GOP after an election in which he tied current Chair, Kathleen Starnes for the Chairmanship. He lost the run-off for that position, but was elected Vice-Chair instead so that he could represent the many grassroots Republicans who support him.
“This is the third state in the last year in which party insiders have tried to purge grassroots activists belonging to the Republican Liberty Caucus,” said Dave Nalle, National Chair of the Republican Liberty Caucus. Purges also took place in Marion County, Indiana, where RLC member Liz Karlson was removed from her Ward Chair position, and in Florida, where five Republican Liberty Caucus members were removed from the party for criticizing party leadership or opposing candidates with a history of fiscal irresponsibility and raising taxes.

Keep fighting Matt, the CINOs have got to go!
“members were removed from the party for criticizing party leadership or opposing candidates with a history of fiscal irresponsibility and raising taxes.”
Are you kidding me? Don’t we all oppose fiscal irresponibility and high taxes? Maybe instead of blindly following the “Party insiders” we should openly follow our beliefs. Like the belief that stealing is wrong, whether it is stealing from one person in the form of burglary, or billions of people by printing money out of thin air.
The first amendment guarantees free speech which is especially important to tolerate speech that one disagrees with or abhors. By removing Mr. Collins they are violating his constitutional right to free speech. In suppression of his right to express opinions on liberty these republicans seek to purge their party of its fundamental character and this is not in the Party
s, Mr. Collins or the countries best interests. At its worst it is the actions of a demagoge and it its best just a crude political power play.
There’s a storm brewing. It’s a big one. It’s going to wash away the political insiders who represent their interests first, their party second, and We the People not at all.
Might does not make right. Matt is on the right side of this issue and will ultimately prevail, and those abusing their positions to stand for nothing but their oligarchy will be severely punished. They’ve put the noose around their own necks and good riddance.
Look at what just happened in New York’s 23rd congressional district race for a preview of things to come.

People are fed up with politicians who play the party game, have no principles, and do not represent the people.
George, much as I agree with your support of Matt Collins, I have to disagree with your assertion that the DCRP violated his 1st Amendment rights somehow.
DCRP is a county organization, not a national organization. It is also not a government entity. As such, the US Constitution does not apply (though the Tennessee Constitution would).
“This effort to remove Collins has been engineered by a faction within the county party which includes some former Democrats and moderate Republicans.”
I would point out that a “moderate” by any other name is a spineless, unprincipled weasel, willing to compromise on core beliefs to preserve access to money, power and influence.
Additionally, “Former Democrats and Moderate Republicans” are euphemisms for what we now refer to as NeoConservatives. Epitomized by Leo Strauss and William F. Buckley Jr, these folks are united in their reverence for a Hobbesian central state with dictatorial powers over the unimportant individual.
It was W. F. Buckley himself who urinated on conservatism and Constitutional principles our ancestors died for when he called for a “totalitarian bureaucracy within our shores.”
Either the republican party purges the liberals (er..progressives), and burns the big tent, or it goes the way of the American Whig Party.
Matt
DCRP favorite political philosopher must be Mao.

The powers that be WANT fiscal irresponsibility,as that is their primary tool for the socialization of this country. Anyone or any party that opposes them will be attacked either overtly, as in Matt’s case, or in a more covert and hidden manner.
It is plain and simple delusion to think that the Republican party as it has now evolved, can integrate patriots, freedom advocates, and Ron Paul supporters. Look what happened to Ron Paul himself; he was, at best, ignored by the NRCC, and often attacked by neocon repubs. Matt’s predicament shows that we need a strong third party and that we cannot run our agenda successfully within the Republican party; it has essentially become the internationalist business and big government party, i.e. the fascist party.

It’s important for things like this to happen, if it were not, I would be much more concerned. Distinctions need to be made between those who are destroying America (Rino’s) and those who love her (Matt), that is exactly what this is about. Boy is there a distinction.
This is as important as the implications of the Hoffman race in NY 23. If local Repub politicos can continue to pull a “schizofava” at this level they will continue to control the local party machinery.
Any thoughts about contacting Fox News and getting some national attention on this political hypocrisy?
I think that is whole affair is a shinning example of the compatibility issue between the Republican party (in its current form) and the emerging grassroot movement of Constitutionalism that is sweeping the nation. The Republican Party has failed “we the people” by moving from a sound position of fiscal conservatism, conservative foundation and responsive leadership. We’ve watched them attempt to claim ownership of the grassroots movement, basically attempting to jump on the train after it has left the station. Today, we watch with interest the election in NY. The moderate Repub stepped out of the race and gave her support to the Democrat. Both of these parties fear the independents. We are seeing this in what is happening in Nashville as well. Those in power, be they Red or Blue, will not just give that power up. They will fight for it, which includes attempts of ouster, Chicago-Style tactics and outright demonization. Personally, I believe that it is time to toss both major parties in the trash.
Watch the NY 23rd district race Davidson County GOP. We are going to fight with our votes to restore lower taxes. Stand strong Matt, we got your back!
@Rand - I agree, It’s time to toss both major parties in the trash.
The democrats left my GG Grandfather and moved sharply to the left. The republicans left my father and moved gradually to the left (though in the years since 1994 they’ve picked up the pace).
This nation of 300+ million subjects is so wildly diverse that no single central government can rule evenly and fairly. There are a great many within these shores whose core beliefs are simply incompatible.
Who shall give up their deeply held convictions? The residents of Deerborn, MI? San Francisco, CA? Guntersville, AL? Salt Lake City, UT?
Some years ago, there was a flap over the inclusion of “under God” in the pledge of allegiance. This was a red herring of the worst sort. The dirty little secret that people (especially folks who imagined themselves to be “conservatives”) didn’t admit, was that the founders have been rolling over in their graves at the very idea of “pledging allegiance” to a national government.
I believe it’s time to revisit the absurd and antiquated notions of “one nation” and “indivisible.”
Bring the Republican party back to it’s roots. Eliminate unconstitutional/unnecessary departments. In the same likeness do not support those who do not uphold their oath. I.E. Zach Wamp (T.A.R.P.), Bill Haslam (Revenue Cameras).
Peace, Prosperity & Liberty!
I think the hearing should be for removing everyone else in the republican party who has not been standing on the principles this party was founded on.
As far as I can tell, Matt Collins would be the only one left!
Constitutionalists UNITE!
Go MATT! Keep speaking up.
What can I do to help? I have 20 minutes to squeeze in a phonecall, letter, whatever. Best to contact me via email or cel.Matt, you have my number. Btw, who is voting?
@ Ron - I understand the laws in which divide our Tennessee Constitution and U.S. Constitution but the right to free speech is most certainly ALWAYS applicable. To say that it would’t be in this case is a delusion of yours. Back to the point, Matt Collins represents the grassroots and this is more of what we need. To shut him out is to shut his supporters out and this is exactly why Matt is active, he believes the people should have a voice that voice shall be effective. The farce of politics has become increasingly apparent to the American people/Tennesseans and we need to be upfront about real change. And not further stifled by the greed-heads we have in office now! Their message to the citizens is that they would rather continue with the status quo of ignoring what the people want and continuing with their own personal agenda without any further interuptions from Mr. Collins or any other “Ron Paul” supporter. By the way…That is a very meaningless reason to give anyway, Ron Paul is an educator and supporting him shouldn’t be looked down upon by any means. Much less a reason to condemn another human. Stay strong, Matt!
Do not think they should oust Matt Collins. He was
such a staunch supporter of Ron Paul, and he has helped
the country. I think he should have freedom in the
United States for speech or whatever. Zach Wamp is
from Chattanooga and I do like and support him, but I
don’t think he would agree with the oust of Collins.
A 2006 study by the CATO Institute using Pew Research and Gallup polling data estimated that 10-20 % of voting age Americans are libertarian minded. Given that Democrats and Republicans are always split 40-40, I would submit that it is this libertarian (Constitutionally Conservative) minded voting block, which Mr. Collins represents, that the Republican Party should be trying to appeal to if they want to gain a permanent majority. The last Republican Administration alienated this block with their “Big Government” policies and essentially created an environment for far left wing liberals to get elected.
Matt Collins and like-minded constitutional Republicans are good for the party; it would be a mistake to remove him.

It is essential if the Republican Party wants to remain a viable party, to get rid of the tax and spend Alexanders, Wamps, and Corkers. Those that love the party and country will continue to pressure these pseudo-Republican Bailouters until they finally resign out of embarassment.
@Carrie - my disagreement is one of sourcing, nothing more. And stems from my absolute belief in the sovereignty of the separate states.
I believe that using the US Constitution to back up activities we take locally, subtly undermines our 10th amendment struggle to beat back an ever-encroaching national authority.
Wherever applicable, we should try to base our proclamation of rights on the applicable source.
In this case, I believe that the right to free speech (like the right to self defense via any means I choose) is a “natural right.” Meaning, it is not conferred by a piece of paper, but inherent within us all.
However, since I place the states above the federal government in the sociopolitical hierarchy, I would prefer to reference the state Constitution FIRST.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. To see how deep this rabbit hole goes, watch this video - http://bit.ly/3TnIsP
Matt Collins should not be removed from the party.
The GOP fears anyone affliated with the Campaign for Liberty or Ron Paul movement because they continue to expose the corruption of the Republican Party and the departure from the true conservative doctrines that made it once great.
God bless America, God protect the Constitution and God bless those who strive against the oppressors of Liberty!
If this goes through, it’s clearly a sign that we need to work outside the two-party system to get anywhere. I don’t see this as giving up, but rather of standing more strongly with principles.
The Republican Party has not only walked away, on many occasions, from small government and lower taxes, but also has fundamental clashes with the libertarian mindset. At the root of this is social conservatism and the religious right. True libertarianism and the idea of laws based on religion are incompatible concepts.
I have no faith what-so-ever that the Republican Party will ever seriously consider ending any drug prohibition. If anything, they tend to move in the wrong way and support the failed “war on drugs”. Even at the local level, I don’t see Republicans doing anything to end blue laws related to alcohol.
“It was W. F. Buckley himself who urinated on conservatism and Constitutional principles our ancestors died for…”
W. F. Buckley’s, the intellectual scion of Modern Conservatism, is among the person most responsible for the current RINO Virus infecting the country. By using National Review along with his political power and influence to damage and discredit Barry Goldwater’s presidential run, he destroyed the party from within.
He was a big city, effete elitist with disdain for grass roots Republicans like Western Libertarians, Nationalists, and Constitutionalists. The Reagan Presidency he championed was one of watered down conservatism and state over-reach, is now somehow, held up as the “ideal”, when it was far from it from that at almost any vantage point.
Capital C Conservatives left the party en masse after Buckley successfully helped sink Goldwater, and have been relegated to the fringe. That vacuum has been filled with Globalist, big government Neo-Cons, Fundamentalists, and Establishment/ Country Clubbers. If you currently unhappy with the platforms, ineffectiveness, and constituency of the Republican Party, you can thank Father Buckley for helping define modern conservatism, which is nothing but a lower tax version of modern liberalism.
I would like to point something out to everyone. The Repugnant party is a private concern and therefore has every right to expel, exclude and remove any person that doesn’t agree with their agenda. Now don’t get me wrong, I do not support their ousting a duly elected officer of the party. However, since they are a private entity, no Constitution, Local/County (Charter), State or otherwise prohibits their actions. The only Constitution that is enforceable is the Local Party’s By Laws. I wish Matt Collins all the best in his efforts, but the local party has shown they do not want liberty as part of their goals. Anyone that didn’t want me in their organization would not have to tell me twice.
BTW, I am one of many that think that neither the Democrap nor Repugnant parties can be changed by a very small minority in either party. Most people are not a real member of the party, they are just every day Joes that want to go about their business. This was evidenced by the recent special election in Memphis, Tennessee where 11% of the population that was able to vote did so. The thug that won the election did so with a mere 60% of that 11%. Not what I’d call a mandate. However, that 5.9% of the entire population have decided what the other 94% will have to obey. Sad really, not that a 100% vote would have been any different since it is my very profound belief as a Computer Systems Engineer that all elections that involve computers are rigged by the highest paying briber.
I have the utmost respect for Matt and others like him and, of course, we need to support him.
BUT….
We all need to face the fact that we are a third party. Perhaps we should get on with strengthening and developing that party and forget trying to place a square peg (us) in a round hole (the repubs). I’m not a political historian but I an not aware of any party ever developing and coming to power by enmeshing itself (and ingratiating itself)with another party that has diametrically (in some if not most cases) opposed ideas, theories and proposals.
This does not mean that we can’t form a party from the integration of other SIMILAR parties and groups
(e.g. constitutionalists, libertarians, etc). But, we need to face the fact that the repubs are completely on another planet and are very hostile to us when we articulate our heart felt beliefs, as those beliefs are anathema to them. THEY ARE FASCISTS (look up the definition—big business combined with big government), and they will not tolerate us unless we bend completely to their will, thus losing ourselves in the process.

Let’s face it: The “republican” party hasn’t been a conservative party in decades - with a couple of exceptions in Goldwater and Reagan. At best they are warmed-over liberals in their present attitude toward the difference between individual-based freedom vs. government ascendancy over individual rights and freedoms. Republicans haven’t been classically conservative since Hoover was defeated by FDRoosevelt at the least and maybe since Lincoln gutted the Constitution.
Those of us who value full freedom and liberty, as our founders described them, are foolish to think we can influence RINOs and moderates toward right thinking. They are actually full-blown liberals in denial, and their mental blocks and socialistic predispositions can’t be changed with logic or any other persuasion.
I understand why Ron Paul ran as a republican this last time instead of going with true conservatism in the Constitution or Libertarian party, but I hope we, as a force to be reckoned with from now on, can finally understand that we must take this fight for freedom to a third party effort, at the same time continuing to try to convince those “republicans,” that aren’t paying much attention to what is happening to their rights and freedoms, to gel their convictions within this individual rights oriented third party. Supporting Matt Collins in this issue is essential.
Establishing and growing a true conservative third party beyond the “republican” party is gonna be a hell of an uphill fight, but it’s much better than being hi-jacked by RINOs and brain-dead moderates election after election in the “republican” party. We’ve got a very good start toward our goal with the leadership of Ron & Rand Paul and we’ve got to be prepared for a vicious and protracted struggle with the dishonest, hypocritical forces of darkness on the left…

The GOP wants to be a big tent for everyone who wants bigger government. But if you actually want our government to keep itself limited to the powers enumerated in the Constitution, if you favor free markets over a centrally managed economy, if you’re against corporate welfare and policing the world, in other words, if you advocate all the things the GOP leaders claim to advocate in their public speeches when they turn around and do the opposite, then watch out, they don’t want your support.
Is that what the party leaders really want conservatives to think about them? If not, then they better rethink what they’re doing to Collins and others like him.
Hey this guy up in New York might be on to something. Maybe it’s time to start building up the American Conservative Party. If the corporate run Republican Party doesn’t want us, maybe we should just make the GOP irrelevant. Where ever you see a GOP booth, just make sure the Conservative Party has one there too. Kind of like Walgreens and CVS. Set up shop right beside them and steal their business.
This is what happens when you believe you can reform systems as corrupt and entrenched as the two “old” parties. start afresh. You are going no where inside the paradigm of the New World Order System.
Thay long ago traded partriotism for cash in the pocket!!
My apologies to Jimmy Duncan–a true Patriot.
Soon, you will see people voting with bullets. I see it coming as I work close to the people. Mainstream politics is so out of touch with the common man, they don’t even know what is getting ready to happen.
Jimmy, yes you are correct we need to replace the 2 parties with a majority 3rd party.
I, too, object to Matt being removed from office. However, way back when he was crowing about refusing to shake Wamp’s hand, I felt he was way out of line as a man and as a party officer. There are plenty of effective ways to express displeasure without resorting to kindergarten manners.
Matt should be censured for the hand-shaking incident, and kept in office. Let the party members decide, in the next party-official election, whether they think he is an asset or liability to the party. I think the current leadership will be very surprised at that outcome.
At first, a handshake snub might seem like a bit of unprofessionalism, but let’s not forget that our nation was forged by men who dressed up in indian costumes, snuck aboard a ship, and dumped tea into a harbor; folks who threw snowballs at the King’s professional army; people who hung effigies of British tax officials in the town square; etcetera, etc.
Matt Collins could have done a lot worse than refused to shake Wamp’s hand. Can’t we applaud him for that?
Or a better question, perhaps: should we?
How can they kick Matt out when we voted him into office? Is the DCRP really that strongly against someone for limited government?
I wonder how the party plans to face its own constituents with this.
” whether they think he is an asset or liability to the party”
Sounds like he’s an ass(et) to me.
How immature and stupid.
Good lord, do these people think their views or ideas are going to get any acceptance when they can’t even show common courtesy? But they want to be taken “seriously?”
Get rid of him before he does something really dumb like punch a senior citizen or something.
For someone like this, utter embarassment, especially for those associated with him, is just a mis-step away.
I mean, I don’t plan to vote for Wamp.
But I’ve met him, shook his hand, and been courteous.
I disagree with him on a number of issues and would like to know specifically why he didn’t finish college…but not shake his hand!?
That’s the problem with too many conservatives. If they disagree with them on policy, they think it’s OK to act like they’re a pedophile or something.
And in the end, it’s not the person they insulted who looks like a moron; it’s the person who insulted them.
It sounds like these people are afraid of losing control to some REAL conservatives. Too bad they feel the need to reject the grass roots the party needs to thrive. Lord knows the Democratic party did not get Obama elected with these tactics. They weaken there own standing meanwhile young liberals are welcomed with open arms into the opposition party.
The good news is that we are not going anywhere.
“Principles Over Politics”
Keep fighting the good fight, Matt. You know your doing something right when they oppose you like this. The DCGOP are probably consulting with Lindsey Graham on what to do next.
Pres. Johnson bugged the Republicans before the ‘68 election, because he suspected they were interfering with the Vietnamese peace negotiations. Later during the Watergate coverup, Pres. Nixon threatened to leak the Johnson bugging to the press. Right before the ‘80 election, the Republicans offered a better deal in the Iranian Hostage Crisis; without an October Surprise, Pres. Carter lost to Reagan. Da di da …
When expression rooted in personal integrity is perceived as a threat to a group’s collective goal, it simply exposes the divergence between its commitment to the principles it supposedly represents and its willingness to compromise them.
Throughout the last presidential campaign, I watched the Republican Party and the MSM marginalize and ostrasize one of the most honest, proven and accomplished men to ever serve the people of this Country - a spectacle that would have been impossible in an enlightened society capable of discerning the difference between projected images and something of real substance.
Americans would like to think they’re made of so much more than that; that they can recognize the highest good when they see it. But this Country is being sold out from under us and those who were fooled into playing that collectivist game before continue to founder on that road again.
Keep up the fight Matt, we need more brave souls like yourself!
Many of us who look for conservative candidates in 2010 & 2012 are watching this Republican debacle very closely. If the GOP leadership doesn’t wake up and support true conservative ideals, it is dead, and the GOP may die with its scuzzy old-guard leaders. Those in the GOP who are true conservatives should get out (or be ousted!)–and join the Constitution Party–or even form their own party. What’s left of the Republican Party if the conservatives leave should join the Democrats, where–like Scuzzy in N.Y.–they will feel more at home.
Isn’t it obvious that Matt Collins is the only Republican with any guts in the DCRP? If the GOP cannot adhere to its own prinicples then why would anyone want to call themselves a Republican?
“Those in the GOP who are true conservatives should get out (or be ousted!)–and join the Constitution Party–or even form their own party.”
Since conservatives make up about 25% of the electorate…exactly how would ousted conservatives win elections?
By allying with the Green Party?
Well heres another attempt of throwing our freedom out to the wolves. I read where a lady was talking about MAtt and saying he has no tact and is Rude. Well pardon the hell right out of Free speech! In these times where all of our liberties are being attacked we need some one with some dam Balls. Just think if our forfather thought like this woman we wouldn’t have a chance. If you do not represent the constitution and what is written in it you are not american and Have no place in Politics Matt has well made his point about this!!
I think this is a slap in the face for liberty It seems the republicans are afraid of Matt.
Here is my thoughts. If this happens or even before, find out who is calling for this oust. Flood their phones, e-mails to let them know if this is what they really want they shouldn’t give up their day job. We the people put them in office we can put them out.
If we really want to shake up Washington and let them know how we feel it starts here at the state level.
Its becoming more and more evident, Democrat/Republican
same shit different pile
Reg
If the Republican Party manages to oust Matt, I will lose what little faith I have left in them. I really have trouble these days differentiating between Republicans and Democrats. They both seem to propogate big government. Worst of all, both parties are so entangled with campaign donations and corporations that the LAST interest they have in mind is We the People. The Republican Party should be thrilled to have Matt instead of trying to expunge him from their ranks.
But maybe it is time that people like Matt really walk away from the Republican Party. We have a pretty strong grass-roots momentum going with the Libertarian Party. The point is not far away where the ideals of the Libertarian Party will be completely and utterly different from the Republican Party…maybe we just need to get out while we can.
Melanie
“If you do not represent the constitution and what is written in it you are not american and Have no place in Politics Matt has well made his point about this!!”
Has Matt Collins fought in Iraq or Afghanistan?
NO!?
DON’T SHAKE HIS HAND, HE’S NOT AMERICAN!!
This is exactly why people with common sense hate the Libertarians like Matt Collins.
It shows what a bunch of self-righteous, arrogant, self-annointed asses you are.
BTW, enjoy your big win in NY-23.
Oust him for hit antics and let the libertarians take another run at a national party. Of course, it failed miserably the first time around and they chose to try to take over the Republican Party. They’ll never getting anywhere with their misguided arrogance. And what in the hell is the “Republican Liberty Caucus?” I’d be curious to know how many members of Congress caucus in this group. They cannot successfully espouse their ideas (many of which are actually good but are severely discredited by actions and stubborness) on their own, so they have decided to bring down the Republican Party with in-fighting. Oust him.
Davy,
You are espousing that having not fought in Iraq / Afghanistan indicates that someone is not American? Are you eight?
CMarcus45,
I think I can assure you that virtually NO
memebers of Congress have caucussed the Republican Liberty Caucuss. Why would they? The RLC’s objective is to end those very Congress memeber’s unconstitutional and unconscionable grip on government power and the election process. You’re not real quick on the uptake, are you?
Others,
For those who somehow think Ronald Reagan was a conservative or a real Republican, nothing could be further from the truth. Ronald Reagan was a venomous, rabid, absolutely foaming-at-the-mouth statist. Persons who believe otherwise are believing what he said, rather than what he did. Though he gave plenty of lip service to individualism, freedom, etc., his actions, consistently, were designed to empower government over the individual in all things at all times at all costs. Just look at the record.
C,mon, y’all. Get smart at least a little.
David, so you are saying that Ron Paul is not a member of the “Republican Liberty Caucus?” Your comment also shows that your position has “virtually NO” support in Congress. Good luck with that. My uptake works fine; your sense of reality seems to need an adjustment, though. That’s not surprising considering the crowd you run with. Even if you were rational, bashing Reagan is no way to win supporters or to get anyone to listen to your side. Again, take an inward look at that sense of reality.
Comments like Bess Huber and Melanie make are similar to my opinion. With little exception say Marsha Blackburn, I see no conservatives in the Republican party. To me, they are the second head of a two headed beast with a Democrat on the other side bickering. Maybe we could say Gov. Bredesen is a Conservative Dem. But no one else seems to be in that party when they constantly vote on the bills we ask them not to vote for. I think they keep cheating us out of our FUTURE earnings by failing to use common sense and logic. They dream up ideas like cap and trade to tax us more when even the founder of the weather channel, J. Hanson, called the whole thing a big hoax to soak people with a new tax. He said this while speaking, I believe, at a special meeting with a UN council studying global warming. Dr. Gray, the foremost meteorologist to many and a very famous hurricane forcaster, flatly called it unproven science and was denied a voice in the UN’s ICPP scientific discussion that allows Al Gore to tell falsehoods unchallenged. We keep being inundated with the liberals from both sides of the aisles’ dumb ideas and can’t seem to vote out the stupidness.
Matt is standing up to the silliness we have all witnessed in regard to towing the line about fiscal responsibility. I support him and hope we see either the end of the two parties who run our country totally into the ground or a major reformation of the Republican’s since they CLAIM to be the conservatives. I too noticed the CINO comment above and agree totally. Without any actual conservation of either the public’s money by fiscal responsible practices or even land conservation, like the great Republican Teddy Roosevelt did for the country, the R’s are not any more coservative than Al Gore. The neo cons just about destroyed our country and our way of life as they have left the barn door open for liberals to say they told us so and for us to “get out of the way you had our chance”! Greed is what did us in and failure to use the properly placed checks and balances. They were there and would have stopped the theft we saw occur in broad daylight with the blessing of both Presidents, Congress and the Senate minus Ron Paul in congress plus a few others. “Too big to fail” was a G. W. Bush &company’s stupid idea and the Liberals have their opening to control the government again. It may be too late now for our country, but Matt represents the change that is coming when we ever get our constitutional rules back in place to correct the laws passed that now bypass the constitution like those treaties for the EPA with foreign entities that are not ratified.
Amen, Justoneman!! Wish I were eloquent enough to put it in words like you have…

“Matt is standing up to the silliness we have all witnessed in regard to towing the line about fiscal responsibility.”
No, Matt is “standing up” to bring attention to himself and to further his political ambitions.
But in reality he’s making a clown out of himself.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH!
All this talk about Matt Collins and whether it was ungentlemanly of him to refuse a handshake with Zach Wamp…it’s missing the point. On purpose, I suspect.
Let’s not forget that liberty was so important enough Benjamin Franklin that he sacrificed his relationship with his [Tory] son for being on the wrong side of the issues.
PRINCIPLES ARE IMPORTANT TO THE PRINCIPLED.
Of course, you can be a spineless milquetoast fop who reveres “bipartisanship” above all…
…but a real man would endeavor to be more like the Good Lord who said of moderates (lukewarm Christians) “I will spew thee out of my mouth.”
If the Davidson Co GOP does not stand for the Constitution, personal and economic freedom, and limited government then I demand to know exactly what in the blazes they DO stand for? Seems like a jingoistic foreign policy and democrat-lite economic policies are the order for the Republican establishment that nationally lost the House, Senate, and White House. Way to go guys! Keep that circular firing squad blazing away.
Please try to remember that it is an executive committee of a county political party party! It does not exist to debate the issues of the day but to get members of its party elected. It isn’t congress or the legislature. It can not pass a law or an ordinance. It exists only to help its candidates to win public office, and to provide poll watchers on election day. It is not a debate society. Remember they cant even adopt a party platform except that it is the national republican platform. The constitution is sacred and it is appropriate to apply this zeal and vigor to getting our elected officials to adhere to it, but a county party executive committee is essentially irrelevant to that matter.
