Reports Of Push Polls In The Tennessee Democratic Gubernatorial Primary

Posted on November 3, 2009 at 10:57 pm

From the Memphis Flyer:

The questions all took some such form as “Would you tend to look favorably on Mike McWherter, knowing he is…” The son of a former governor. Someone who knows business and how the banking system works. A pioneer in the field of green technology. Etc., etc., etc.

In short, the good doctor had been on the receiving end of a “push poll,” one designed more to influence answers than to solicit them.

    A total leap of logic.

Any poll asks about a candidates positives and negatives. The presence of negative questions does not a push poll make.

Why would any campaign push poll a year before the election? Push polls are done last minute in an attempt to influence voter behavior.

This sounds like a standard benchmark poll.

It’s funny that they would do a push poll asking if people would be willing to vote for him because he is Ned Ray’s son. Isn’t that the ONLY reason anyone will vote for him?

If his dad hadn’t been governor, no one would give Mike McWherter a second look.

Says a little something about the fundraising that a candidate can afford to poll this far out. Are any of the other candidates polling?
