Racist Ads

Posted on November 3, 2009 at 10:59 am

Cracked remembers the infamous 2006 ‘Call Me’ ad:

The ad was considered so sleazy that even Bob Corker asked it be pulled off the air as pundits nationwide accused him of race-baiting.

It’s worth noting that the whole Playboy bunny thing was a reference to the fact that Ford had attended a 2005 Playboy-sponsored Super Bowl party in Florida. He justified it with a awesomely candid quip: “I like football and I like girls. I have no apologies for that.”

Tennessee voters were so outraged by the ad campaign that the white Bob Corker shot up several points in the polls and won a narrow victory. At the end of the day, everyone learned a valuable lesson about race-baiting smear tactics: they f***ing work.

Yeah, Corker called on the RNC to take down that ad! (Wink wink).

    What a total crock.

The only thing absurd about that ad were the idiots who labeled it racist. You’re looking to depict a Playboy Bunny, gee, is it really a stretch to suggest the actress playing her should be blue-eyed with blonde hair? Those folks usually come with white skin, ya know?

I’m guessing you “read” that magazine enough to know, huh?

Tacky was Bob’s word, as in no more of that tacky talk at the table, Bobby, pass the pie.

He was right, of course, in the same sense that lynchings–which is what black males once got in our state for being in the vicinity of winks from white females–were tacky, too.

Albert, are you seriously saying that ad was akin to lynching?!? God, you need help.

I think it was a bad ad, but it was as bad as the one that depicted HFJ coming out of any alley in the night! That drew more fear than the “white woman” ad. Scary black man in the alley coming to steal your purse! Tacky ads, but they didn’t contribute to his loss.

I’ll always believe it was just the Playboy reference. The church people couldn’t abide that.

If there is only one thing not to like about Corker, that ad is it.

Could buy and “read” it, just not “abide” in it.

Ok, I am new to this “Politics of Color” thing so bear with me.

Can someone tell me why Democrats think black men can’t date white women?

    Anyone?
