Yes, we actually credit and/or link to our source material over here unlike some folks we know. Your point is?

All hail to our SouthComm overlords!

Are you kidding me? Ever heard of copyright law? Your habitual throwing out of somebody’s last name — or not — does not a publication credit make. Not to mention running said credit-free item as a photo-centerpiece on your sister publication’s website.

You also seem to hint that this happens at In Session. If ever you see something linked to but not credited at The Tennessean’s political blog, please email me right away, runderwood@tennessean.com, and I will correct it.

Nope — almost certainly fair use so long as its linked and credited.

Damn you, ACK, what with your driving traffic their way and stuff.

    Internet: Serious business.

Kleinheider, you didn’t credit The Tennessean in this post.

    Somebody’s gotten into the Tennessean’s head…

Is this how print media is going to die? Kicking and screaming…?

Word. We’re planning on staying there.

And in all fairness, you did credit them. The link was the credit. But I think Christian Grantham’s proposed resolution has quite a bit of merit.

The City Paper’s use of the Corker article, while unethical, would probably be considered fair use. The amount of material quoted from The Tennessean story on Corker was de minimus. But many of the other articles on Post Politics (which I enjoy and read daily) consist of nothing but paragraphs, sometimes many paragraphs, lifted from legally protected publications. Ryan Underwood may have picked a bad example but his larger point has merit: copying large excerpts of protected content for commercial purposes is not fair use and may well violate the copyright laws.

Sorry Ryan. The Tennessean surrenders the high ground every time they run a story broken by a non-Gannett local news outlet and lead with “The Tennessean has learned that . . .” Fix that, and then I might listen to your whining.

Henry Walker lecturing on ethics? Let’s take a look at Henry’s ethics:

Ah. The old circulation game. Well, we do know this blog is an aggregator, so the quibble should be with the City Paper.
