Davidson County Republican Party Endorses Non-Republican
By Kleinheider Posted on October 20, 2009 at 11:53 amDavidson County Republican Party Chairwoman Kathleen Starnes has joined former Senator Fred Thompson in endorsing New York congressional candidate Doug Hoffman.
Hoffman is running for the 23rd District seat on the Conservative Party ticket against Democrat Democratic candidate Bill Owens and the Republican nominee, Deirdre “Dede” Scozzafava.
Both the RNC and the RNCC have endorsed Scozzafava.
On Sunday, Starnes forwarded an email from tea party activist Judson Phillips soliciting help for the conservative candidate to a DCRP email list. In her forward, Starnes seemingly seconded Phillips endorsement of the non-Republican.
“The Liberals are trying to infiltrate the Conservative Party, especially now because of the Tea Party uproar. Be Aware.. and help Doug get elected.. even if it is $25.00. I did. We need to help our neighbors.. We do not need any more Rhinos,” wrote Starnes.

Tear the party apart? The County Party should focus on the State.
Typical nonsense from the Davidson County Party
The Republican endorsed candidate (by the Republican county chairs, not the voters since this is a vacated/open seat) supports the filth of homosexual marriage. Someone who engages in or endorses such filth should not receive the support of any true Republican.
Hey let’s work on raising money for the State Party, not some NY Republican.
frankj unwittingly hits the nail on the head. the case can be made that on the issues tea-baggers claim to care about (taxes, size of government, etc) Scozzafava is the better choice, or at least the one offering a record over rhetoric. But obviously their real priority is in keeping the country as backwards and troglydytic as possible.
Can the DCRP send me money?
Losers
It’s about time we started going after Republicans and we have some others in Maine to go after also.
Good job Davidson GOP, let’s take on Speaker Williams now!
Dear Davidson GOP
If you need a press person I am your guy
Ghost of Bill Hobbs
Ever thought about spending your time on beating Odom and others? That would make a lot more sense.
It just never ends with those people. It’s just another reason why nobody attends the meetings.
Kleinheider -
It is important to note that the Davidson GOP itself did not endorse anyone, this was not an official action of the Party.
-Matt Collins
Davidson County (Nashville) Vice Chairman
Why would the Davidson County GOP be endorsing in a NY race? And what does that “endorsement” entail? Money? Votes?
Sounds like this Starnes woman is just “going rogue”, like her idiot role model.
If the DCRP had any party discipline, they’d demote this goofball.
Oh, and its RINOs, not “rhinos”. Apparently, Dan Quayle is one of Starnes’ heroes too.
Starnes’ you are a complete bucket head!
You can’t even spell the correct political spelling of RINO. Could we please elect a County Party Charmian or Chairwomen that has some political experience?
Here we are on the brink of a Republican year and we have our County Chairman working against our National Party. I have emailed them to let them know, that we don’t agree with her. Thanks for making us look like a circus Chairman.
From all Tennessee Democrats, Thank you Chairman Starnes 2010 is now looking better after all.
Seriously folks, what else do the Davidson County Republicans have to do? Its not like they have any elections in the county they will win (outside of Beth Harwell and slivers of other Republican districts).
Let her feel important for today, and she can slip back into utter obscurity tomorrow.
Guess you got a point
Maybe she can endorse Kelsey opponent?
Glad to know they support Fred over the Party. This is the same game that ran the worse campaign in Presidential Primary History.
My support of Doug Hoffman for NY’s 23rd Congressional District seat was not meant to be representative of an official DCRP endorsement. Unfortunately, I inadvertently referenced the DCRP in conjunction with my name in my forwarded correspondence. The DCRP has made NO formal endorsement of Mr. Hoffman.
My sincere appology for any confusion this may have caused!
Kathleen Starnes
Chairman, Davidson County Republican Party
Being Chairman you really represent all republicans in the County. Doing so you should stay out of races like this.
You send an email out asking for funds for a canidate that is not supported by your National Party or the National Congressional Party. Most people with any common since with a leadership role like yours would have stayed out of it. Especially when you are asking for funds for a race in another state?
Does the State Party need money? How much money does the DCRP have? Do we have any debt from our latest victory by our State Party?
What this shows is a lack of political experience on your part and I for one will not give my annual small donation.
Statesmanship this is not and this is very unprofessional.
Never before have I posted on this site, but do read almost every day. Please note that the County Chairman does not represent most Republicans in this county.
Why she would do something so childish in a position of power is beyond me.
The County GOP has taken three steps back.
Kathy you did the right thing. We have to purge the party of RINOs.
McCain and his buddy “linsley Gramacy” should be next on the hit parade and yes the two from maine.
Jon is your typical liberal. Either totally uninformed or simply lying about the facts. Scozzafava is a tax and spend liberal. She is more at home with Obama than with the mainstream of the GOP. If it were not for the beltway GOP establishment, her campaign would collapse from lack of support. Doug Hoffman represents the values that the majority of Americans share. Kathleen Starnes is a great American. Unlike a lot of other GOP leaders, she has the courage to stand up and say what she believes.
This race in NY is not the business of the Davidson County TENNESSEE Republican Party. While the article fails to describe the demographics of this district, one might guess that if it is in NY it is unlikely to be full of teabagging racist homophobes. Granted there are parts of NY that are as backwards as anywhere in this state.
Scozzafava could use this to her advantage. What would that district’s voters think of ‘input’ from ‘Ol Fred in his Red Truck and the Republican chairman from Country Music USA? Nashville is actually quite sophisticated on many levels but with ‘English Only’ and other silliness making national headlines this ‘endorsement’ can’t possibly help Mr. Hoffman.
How scary!!!!!!!! The Republican Party in TN has let their power go to their head. Do you really think that you can influence a race in New York? Fred, don’t do anything else to weaken your name and influence. It is time for you to stay with acting.
Another reason many conservative Republicans are
sending individual donations to persons that are
conservative rather than to national parties. It
all takes place in the primary. In NY the lady
was not selected in a primary, she was selected
by party officials. Those days are over!
I hate liberals, I want them all deported out of the country
Kudos to Kathleen for having the guts to do what is right. We have to rid the GOP of all RINOS and this is the beginning. It IS the business of TN and every other state as the votes in Congress matter to the entire nation…not just the particular state or district.
It’s time to make the GOP realize that We the People are fed up with RINOS and will no longer support them! Way to go!!!!
We’re running the country, thanks to the wisdom of a majority of American voters, Laura. But if you don’t love your country, feel free to leave.
What’s funny about this whole thing is that the Davidson County GOP is essentially irrelevant, and their ego is out of control if they think their endorsement of anything is of any importance to anyone here, let alone in New York.
To those that say what business is it of TN what happens in NY? Please, these people are cobbling together the worse collection of socialists this country has ever seen. The consequences of electing RINOs is clear, socialism. Socialists + socialists lite= socialism! Obviously this woman is closer to San Fran Nan and does not belong in the republican party. The tea party movement is strong and growing stronger and we believe in representative government, not rulers! I applaud this woman for standing up for the true party values and standing against those within the party that have no values.
Also, if the true Democrats making smart a$$ comments here had any sense, they would realize that their party no longer begins to represent their values either, unless you count Chairman Mao as a great philosopher for mankind!
All you RINO hating teadbaggers feel free to run off every reasonable Republican politician in the country. The result will be you will never again win a national election. Actually it is a shame that the Republican party of Dole, Goldwater and Rockefeller has turned into the party of Newt, Rush and Palin. The Democrats need reasonable and intelligent opposition to keep them in check from going too far the other way. A party made up of self-serving corrupt morons like Bush and snake-handling nutbags like Palin will not offer voters that choice.
It is clear that the Republican party has chosen to become a Nazi associate party, while claiming otherwise. It is time.
Wardoc
Which is it, Are the Republicans Capitlist Pigs
Or National Socialist NAZIs.
They cannot be both.
