Kos Is Not Going To Leave Jim Cooper Alone

Posted on September 28, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Markos “Kos” Moulitsas ain’t trying to hear all this noise about how a challenge to Jim Cooper is a fool’s errand:

Instead of trying to shut out the “interlopers”, maybe his supporters should try to get Cooper to vote the right way. Because if he does, the case against him becomes lots weaker.

But let me go back to “interloper”, because it’s a charge us national bloggers get all the time — is this author (at the Nashville Post) worried about the “interloper” insurance companies that are bankrolling Cooper and buying his votes? In his time in Congress, Cooper has gotten some serious cash.

Is this guy just sitting around waiting to respond to the lefties in Tennessee? Doesn’t he have candidates to field?

Kos is right. Jim Cooper needs a primary challenger. Cooper’s smugness and certainty of a seat because he has a D in front of his name is not a good enough reason to keep him in office. Blue Dogs, like him, who never whined about the Bush years; yet, go after something with broad Democratic appeal, need to get the heave-ho.
There is a chance for this, especially since the primaries will be pure Democrats pulling the ticket. The Repubs have the Guv primaries to keep them out of our races, and remember indies and so -called blue type dogs will probably drift over to the Repub ticket, too. So just the yellow dogs will be left to vote for someone other than Cooper in TN-05. This could put the seat in play. Someone needs to get in there now.

I must confess I am in Interloper from TN-03, but I will help out in any way I can for a better Democrat in Tennessee no matter where it is. Money and door knocking are on the way to whomever steps in for real healthcare reform.

I think you’re a huge net positive, and I’m glad I met you at Yearly Kos a couple of years ago.

    1. Kos is right, Cooper needs a primary challenge. BUT - Democrats don’t need a pissin’ contest as much as they need money to overcome a whole lotta Red in TN. Rather than primary Cooper, send some money to East TN and give a Dem candidate a chance up here, and in other presumed GOP areas. I’d much rather see good effort against Republicans in all the districts than some grudge between Democrats in one.
