Gun In Parks Blowback
By Kleinheider Posted on September 27, 2009 at 1:50 pmWard Cammack thinks lawmakers need to be careful what kind of gun laws they pass:
Cammack said he flatly opposes both the “guns in parks and guns in bars or restaurants” laws and believes most other Tennesseans do as well.
“This really has nothing to do with the Second Amendment and everything to do with selling guns,” he said.
In fact, said Cammack, the law could have “reverse consequences” for Second Amendment rights because such laws “make the majority of people nervous” and could increase public sentiment toward more restrictive gun legislation.
Further, Cammack said the attention given by politicians to promoting such gun laws could discourage businesses from choosing Tennessee for places to build or expand facilities.

Cammack said he flatly opposes both the “guns in parks and guns in bars or restaurants” laws and believes most other Tennesseans do as well.
Channeling Al Gore is an interesting concept. History has already proven the fallacy of telling people that only criminals can have weapons is doomed to failure.
What Cammack flatly did is appeal to the vast minority. Good luck. Maybe they can vote twice to make up the gap.
When people use the phrase “only crimminals can have guns” are they discounting the existence of law enforcement officers
William, you mean those LAw Enforcment officers that Beat Rodney king, and Shot Diallo 41 Times.
Or the Law Enforcment officer that held a neighborhood hostige in Nashville earlier this year.
Or the law Enforcement officers that stood outside VA Tech building doing nothing while 33 Students were shot.
Or those law enforcment officers that stood outside Columbine Highschool doing nothing while 13 students were killed.
but on the other hand we had ARMED CITIZENS like Joel Myrick that saw a school shooting got his weapon came and stopped the shooting.
Or like armd citizens like Michael Bridges and Ted Besan got their handgunds and stoppted the shooting at Appalachian School of Law
Yep.. Only Criminals will have guns.
The Police Rarely stop crime in progress, they clean up the mess afterward.
Armed Citizens stop ~2,500,000 crimes IN PROGRESS each year on average (Study by the Uninversity of Chicago, and UCLA) while police stop ~10,000
I forgot why we were supposed to care what Cammack has to say…
I forgot why we were supposed to care what Cammack has to say…
Excellent point.
U of Chicago study? That wouldn’t be John Lott’s scholarly masterpiece, would it?
TNVolunteer,
Are you saying that the rogue cops you cite are representative of most police officers? Are you an anarchist? Do you believe we should just do away with police?
It’s pretty funny watching the pro-gun people think they are controlling the power on the GOP voters.
While the gun issues are big for a lot of GOP and GOP leaning voters, gun issues aren’t the only issues.
And here’s the dilema: if the GOP officeholders think they are the only issues, will they alienate and ignore other GOP and GOP leaning voters who think the issues they’re concerned with, like higher educational standards, crime laws, and the economy are not being attended to?
I mean if the gun groups make the guns issues the main issues, I think they will end up turning off a substantial number of GOP and GOP leaning voters who aren’t caught up in TNVolunteer73’s and Number9’s anti-government paranoia.
Maybe Parks where law abiding citizens with permits aren’t allowed to carry should post this sign. ATTENTION CRIMINALS: GUNS AND LAW ABIDING CITIZENS WITH HAND GUN PERMITS ARE NOT ALLOWED GUNS IN THIS PARK SO UNLESS THERE’S A POLICEMAN HERE THE PARK BELONGS TO YOU. YOU MAY ROB, RAPE, ASSAULT OR WHATEVER YOU LIKE BECAUSE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS MAY NOT PROTECT THEMSELVES OR THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS HERE. PLEASE THANK THE LIBERAL LEFT AND THE POLITICIANS THAT ALLOWED THIS. Criminals don’t abide by the law and politicians that don’t allow law abiding citizen to protect themselves and others should be voted out of office. You must remember LEO protect and serve but in robbery, rapes, assaults and other crimes such as these LEO investigates AFTER THE FACT. As far as business places that put up signs against handgun permits I usually give them a business card that explains no more business from us and will advertise for them. I usually have a large group with me and they watch us walk away. Several have changed their ways lol. But let us be serious. The NEO-COMMUNIST / SOCIALIST that have stolen the Democrat party from the liberals and have taken control of our country want total power over everyone. They knows that the Second Amendment is all that stands in their way of having total control over everyone.

After reading a rant like this, it’s easy to believe that people like you would HOPE for a crime or terrorist event just to support your politics.
Sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick.
Remember too, a surplus of weapons doesn’t mean peace.
See the US/Mexican border.
Even if you’re carrying, you can be ambushed, bum rushed, and defeated by other tactics.
Unless you have eyes in the back of your head, and can move quicker than US military troops, you can still be killed.
Do you not think a lot of those kids killed and shot in Afghanistan and Iraq weren’t fully armed?
You are right Davy we need to lay down or get on our knees for the bad guys. Of course you’ll be safe. You’ll just jerk out your “I supported Obama card and the bad guys will just let you go. LMAO Keep saying it Davy boy, yes I can, yes I can, yes I can. Are you feeling the hope yet Davy boy.
