Dr. Martin Kennedy says now that the King of Fop has declared the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan failed missions that it’s okay for conservatives to be anti-interventionist — again.

When Bob Novak and George Will are playing “rabbi” for you…it’s really time to get some new rabbis. (Bob Novak, one suspects, would have been a rabbi of the New Jersey, kidney-hawking breed, anyway.)

That being said, it’s a little ridiculous how quickly an anti-war position on Afghanistan went from an unspeakable, anti-American blasphemy to a view being breezily floated by folks on the right. Not that the anti-war position is the wrong one - it has plenty of adherents across the political spectrum, and it’s increasingly hard to make an argument against it.

But, if Obama had expressed a desire to move towards a pull-out in Afghanistan during the ‘08 campaign, it would have been taken as a politically dangerous, even far-left position. Nevermind that many (maybe even most) Americans would have sympathized with the view - the common wisdom would have been that Obama was soft on terrorism. But put someone from another party in the White House and watch how fast those tunes change…

Conclusion: If we could just find a way to make passing effective health care reform hurt Democrats politically, we’d have a bill signed and enacted yesterday.

Sad, isn’t it. They claim to be the party of values, of steadfast beliefs - all of it a bunch of crap to cover naked political ambition. Dems who were for the war in Afghanistan, by and large, are still for it - for the reasons are still valid. Not so the GOP, who act more and more like babies who miss sucking at the nip of power.

We need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan…

…after we’ve won and stablized those nations. Then, after we’ve gotten out we need to watch and see if their government goes sour again. If so, we need to go back in there, kick their asses again, topple their evil governments again and continue until their leaders realize they won’t be leaders for very long until they stop threatening the USA.

Lather, rinse, repeat. No politics involved.
