Funny And True

Posted on July 31, 2009 at 4:34 pm

Rod Williams explains why he thinks a common joke about Democrats is funny and true:

Statistics show that Republicans are personally more generous, that they contribute more to charities, than Democrats. Now, one might argue that Republicans have more money to give than Democrats. Or, one might argue that since Republicans attend church more regularly that a lot of that charitable giving is to churches which may be paying high salaries to ministers and staff and building grand buildings and is not really charitable giving at all. Nevertheless, the statistics indicate those who call themselves Republicans give more to charity than Democrats.

Average Adjusted Gross Income figures are from 2002.
    1. Generosity Index: The index is created by comparing the rank of each state’s average adjusted gross income to the rank of each state’s average itemized charitable deductions (AICD). The arithmetical differences between these two rankings are then themselves ranked, resulting in the Generosity Index rank.
    2. “Having” Rank: a ranking of the Average Adjusted Gross Income by state.
    3. “Giving” Rank: a ranking of the average donations by state.
    4. Rank Relation: Having Rank minus the Giving Rank.

This proves nothing other than Republicans are more likely than Democrats to reduce complex issues to dry, shop-worn political gags.

I think conservatives respond to old cliches like this because it makes them feel good about themselves and its easier than relating to people as individuals.

    Tom Paine,

Or this proves that partisian democrats like yourself have to change the subject to avoid looking bad and just attack your opponent.

no conservitives are more generious than Liberals, that is why Conservitives trust people more.

Liberals are stingey, dont give their monies to charity, thus since they are stingey they think everyone else thus think Government is the do all end all for helping people.
