It’s Done: Stanley Resigns From The State Senate

Posted on July 28, 2009 at 5:06 pm

From the office of the Lt. Governor:

Senator Paul Stanley has resigned from the State Senate effective August 10th. I have received his letter of resignation and forwarded it to Secretary of State Hargett and Governor Bredesen.

UPDATE: Senator Stanley’s resignation letter:

Dear Governor Ramsey:

It has been an honor to serve with you in the State Senate in the 105th and 106th General Assemblies. Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10, 2009.

Thank you for your service as our Speaker of the Senate and Lieutenant Governor.

Respectfully yours,
Paul Stanley
Senate District 31

Interesting timing. Since the GA isn’t in session anyway, he could have made his resignation effective after November, giving the Shelby County Commission the ability to appoint his replacement. By doing it in November, it will be filled by election.
