Stanley’s First Wife Swore Out A Restraining Order In 1994

Posted on July 23, 2009 at 3:28 pm

While Sen. Paul Stanley tries desperately to hang on to his current marriage amid reports of a TBI confirmed admission of an extramarital affair with an intern and subsequent blackmailing by her boyfriend, allow Post Politics to take you on a trip down memory lane.

You see, while Paul Stanley is currently a husband to his wife Kristi and father to his two young children, he hasn’t always been married — not to Kristi anyway.

Before Stanley’s political career got going as a Senior Field Representative for Senator Bill First in 1995, he was married to another woman, his first wife, Judy Martin.

The couple resided together for only one year. But it seems it was a tumultuous one. According to documents obtained by Post Politics, in 1994, Judy Martin swore out a restraining order against her husband, Paul R. Stanley. From the order:

“Paul has verbally abused me as well as my children using very vulgar language. Also, this incident that occurred Feb 6th, 1994 is the third he has physically hit me.

After verbal abuse and physically hitting me — pushing — removing his glasses ready for a confrontation.

He was going out the door to leave our house and he hit me with a tremendous blow and then he proceeded to turn and run away from me outside the garage to the street.”

Shortly after the incident described above transpired the couple divorced. Stanley shortly thereafter met his current wife while working for Bill Frist’s U.S. Senate office in Memphis.

Kristi Stanley also worked in Frist’s Memphis office — as an intern.

I wonder whether anyone will file a bill in the next session preventing Sen. Stanley from adopting.

Well, I was going to comment. But, after rereading this post, no further comment is really needed, is it?

I think - as a condition of staying in the State Senate - he should be required to notify authorities when he’s in town and must maintain a 500-foot distance between himself and any intern; and he has to also not hang out in any areas frequented by interns - parks, bars, concerts, etc. … as a condition of his maintaining his office -

oh, and he has to give to the Wamp campaign …

Disclaimer: I don’t condone sexual misconduct or wife beating. I have to say that because some of you are purposefully obtuse. That being said…

When was this fed to you, ACK? Recently? Or have you had this one in the chamber for years? If so, why wasn’t it newsorthy before now?

Listen, I HATED Stanley’s bill. I ripped it apart here, if you’ll recall.

But this stinks to high heaven. Everything that’s released seems perfectly timed. It just looks orchestrated.

Even the boyfriend’s statement looks like it was written by Chip Forrester.

Once again, I’m not defending the guy. This is pretty lowdown stuff. Is Stanley worthy of a senate seat, knowing what we now know? I don’t think so.

But ACK, it looks either like you are being used, or you are carrying out a vendetta.

  7. July 23rd, 2009 5:11 pm

That this other situation has come out NOW says to me that the GOP is sending Stanley a direct message: GET OUT or we’ll release everything we have on you.

Just giving up a committee chair is not going to be enough for them, because Stanley is becoming an albatross around their necks.

If he doesn’t get out soon, who knows what the GOP will leak next?

Not defending the guy either. In fact I’ve been sick so I don’t really know what all is going on. But was he convicted of something? Or is this just an allegation people are jumping on out of political enmity?

Yet another “abstinence only” flame-out from the Republican camp. Repent brother Stanley and it’s all forgiven and forgotten, except of course for the unworkable public policy that the citizenry gets stuck with as a result of your hypocrisy.

  11. July 23rd, 2009 5:25 pm

Steve, they wanted to leak it to a journalist. :)

But, somebody’s playing dirty. It’s like Chicago politics. Is that how we do things in TN now?

I want to know who’s pulling the strings.

This is a little nit-picky, but has Kristi Stanley issued a statement? Saying he’s “desperately trying to hang on to his marriage” is a bit of an assumption on the author’s behalf isn’t it.

  15. July 23rd, 2009 5:46 pm

Well, when did SHE find about it? Did she learn about it after April 9, or when the rest of us did? Again, why was this kept quiet for three months?

No way Democrats could ever win that seat, even with a scandal.

It’s probably political, maybe some Republican that wants the seat. Then again, maybe the ex-wife just decided to drive a stake through the bastard’s heart.

I have a suspect, but life is too short to go all fedora/Columbo/Matlock/Charlie of Charlie’s Angels.

15 years ago. Now there’s some real dirt.

That’d be a dang hillbilly Federal hate crime under current law.

“… the third time he has physically hit me…” You know, Tony Gottlieb has skin in the game and I appreciate his genuine concern for promoting the involvement of fathers. HOWEVER … we ought to be a little more concerned about the thousands of incidents of domestic and sexual violence that husbands commit against their wives. It’s wrong, it’s real, and it’s not something you should minimize. And from what I’m reading, Stanley hit his wife. It is NEVER ok to abuse your partner. NEVER. Period.

The GOP is a cess pool of hypocrites loudly proclaiming family values in order to win elections.

When the religious people then vote for these scum bags, the Stanley’s of the GOP are laughing behind their backs and flying down to Argentina or meeting their dates in men’s rest room stalls in Minneapolis.

The first wife did not leak this story, this is part of public court records. I’m suprised that Sen Frist did not have it removed since he worked for him. I guess someone forgot it was there. He or any man that beats his wife is a coward. The record said, “As he left he hit her with a tremendous blow.”
How could anyone uphold this mean and vicious man. Are his family and christian values typical of the right-winged believers? I was looking at the Sanfords, Ensign, etc. who preach christian values, and end up doing the worse of the worse. My Father told my brothers that hitting a woman was never justified, just walk away, and he would not tolerate this if he ever heard about it. As far as I know they never abused their wives or any female. Someone is failing these men and where does it start? Women are not slaves to men, they should be partners. I wonder, if he had another woman during the first marriage? Maybe, that is the type of behavior when one is trying to cover up something that he knows that he should not have done.

    Interns obviously “turn-on” politicians.

The eugenics-driven Obama crowd will ensure that Obamacare is a “shovel ready Federal program” for grandma. The Federal folks have done such a great job “reforming” the VA….I’m sure they will exercise that “talent” with the rest of us.
    Quo warranto, B.O.?

  36. July 24th, 2009 7:24 pm

Shorter “Solid ‘Republican’ Citizen”: “Look over there!”

Where? To Republicans like Sanford, Ensign, Vitter, Craig, Foley, thrice married Gingrich, thrice married Giuliani, or philandering braggart McCain?

Or we can really get into the weeds with state Republicans who betrayed their wives and abandoned their children….

As for ‘health care, currently over 18,000 Americans die for lack of healthcare a year, 14,000 Americans are losing their healthcare every day, and we’re behind dozens of other countries on measurable health metrics like life span and infant mortality rates.

But hey, Republicans prefer their philanderers over paying a buck a day to lower infant mortality rates in America.

Republican values: Change the subject and abandon the children.

Just because another broken Promise Keeper beats his former wife, everyone goes benanas. Jeeze, it’s not like he was arrested in an airport men’s room because of his ‘wide-stance’ social views, or wears diapers when he frequently frequents prostitutes, or takes off for points South to be with his ’soul-mate’ while his poor wife and four children are left in the dark, or seduces his employee in his house while his wife and her husband and all their children are there. What’s the big deal already?

    Solid Citizen,
You are a truly amazing person! A reincarnation of the Great Karnak, and a veritable resource of all things “democrat.” Thanks for knowing all democrats and that they support eugenics! NOT.

Do you know that it was under GW Bush that the VA was allowed to get into the shape it currently finds itself in? CBS had a big special on this. Under GWB the VA: refused mental health treatment; denied claims; kept poor records; did little follow-up on veterans returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan; the suicide rate of returning service-members increased more than in any previous war; Walter Reed was found to be a deplorable place to treat patients. These are just a few of the things that were going on at the VA under GWB.

As far as health care reform is concerned a previous poster has laid out many of the facts, and besides discussing it is useless. Your mind is already made up, and I choose not to waste my time.

It’s not great, it’s not good, but the trash is picked up, the streets get plowed in winter, and we have miles of beautiful wrought iron fences. Of course, there are also canyon-like potholes, a retarded parking meter situation, and the head of our schools is delightfully unqualified for the position. Oh, and we pay 10.25% sales tax. And fees for everything from dogs to cars to keg taps. In spite of everything it IS, the Machine is NOT hypocritical. So I’ll take the Machine over this GOP foolishness any day.
