Tommy Frist Shaves His Property Tax Bill By Using A Tax Break For Farmers

Posted on July 20, 2009 at 11:47 pm

From NewsChannel5:

“It’s a piece of property that typically one would think of as more a residential type use,” Rooker said.

For Frist, the exemption has meant big bucks — according to Rooker’s office — cutting the appraisal of his property last year from more than $16 million, to less than $10 million.

That slashed his property tax bill by more than $68,000. That’s money that didn’t go to pay for government services.

“Our hands really are tied,” Rooker said. “We simply administer the process.”

The assessor explained that, because of all the trees that dot the estate, Frist applied for a tax break under the forest provisions of the Greenbelt law. All the law requires is a forest management plan approved by the state forester.

Frist’s plan is basic: Harvest any dead or dying trees damaged by wind or ice storms, while letting the rest grow.

I guess I missed Channel 5’s expose’ on the Gore house.

    Can anyone say, political retribution?

Hey we’re growing some tomatoes in our backyard. Clearly that means I, too, am eligible for the farm exemption.

I have just about as many trees. So many, in fact, it makes installing solar panels quite impractical. On top of that, I have a small forest behind my house, complete with deer, coyotes, and other critters, as is normal in West Meade.

    Where do I sign?

    Tom Pain..

Yep it’s your GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE AT WORK.

You want to see, what your Government healthcare will look like, we have had government healthcare for DECADES, it is the VA System.

Amarillo VA Hospital (home, asbestos, mold)

The buildings are old and have serious mold and asbestos problems. They are replacing some of the wings but it’s going slow (it’s the government, after all). They rotate the nursing staff from one wing to another so they won’t be continuously exposed to the mold problems

Investigation says veterans hospital in violation of mold cleanup guidelines

U.S. Senate hears VA hospital HIV nightmare! - West Palm Beach Medical Malpractice Lawyer

As if faulty colonoscopy equipment cleaning resulting in HIV infections to our veterans wasn’t enough, let’s screw up 92 out of 116 cancer treatments in Philly. This is your government provided health care at it’s finest folks. Sadly, most people state they support the troops, but I see precious little outcry from the masses on this gross mistreatment. It’s a long article but well worth the read:

NYT: At V.A. hospital, a rogue cancer unit - The New York Times

VA hospitals overwhelmed, more than 300,000 with outstanding claims.

Yep …and those problems haven’t been resolved for over a decade.

Let’s see, who was president before Obama? Anyone? Anyone? (insert sound of crickets chirping).

But just remember, Republicans are the ones who lead when it comes to SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS!

I also truly believe that if corporate run hospitals were subject to the same reporting requirements (inspectors general, OMB, CBO, Congressional oversight, etc) as the VA, the margin of difference in quality of care would be more similar than different.

That’s why you can’t use anecdotal media stories to prove a point.

There is no proposal for the government to take over the provision of health care. You know this, too.

The government will be insuring 100 Million according to the CBO…

if you make less than 80K Married 110K by 2014 you will be forced into a Government plan… According to the CBO Report.

I agree with you about the public option, but it still isn’t a government-run health care system.
