So you’re saying that if you’re a jerk, people won’t be inclined to be sympathetic to your political positions? That’s just crazy talk.

“A City Paper columnist”? That’s a little strange, but otherwise great column. I’d really like for libertarians to have a greater voice in our representative democracy; It’s unfortunate that again and again, it seems libertarians can’t make the jump to be a part of the larger group of varying viewpoints. It’s a shame really.

Guys like Matt are letting these “country club republicans” know that the liberty lovers within the GOP are pissed and want change. Whether or not it was the right thing to do is completely Matt’s call. This is the reason I find it easier to be a Libertarian with the Libertarian Party rather than a Libertarian trying to make change from within the GOP. We can stand up and call them on their bullshit all day long and not have to actually smooze with their statist asses. I find it refreshing that the Republican Liberty Caucas is succeeding in standing up to the establishment politicians and making their positions known to a wider audience. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

volvoice, you seem to have missed the part where Matt Collins is not a declared Libertarian, but the vice-chairman of the Davidson County Republican Party! He is not in a position to “stand up and call them on their bullshit all day long and not have to actually smooze with their statist asses.” HE IS ONE OF THEM. He is one of their leaders! He was smoozing with them at the Davidson County picnic. He is a part of the system! So he should play by the rules of the system. Hello!!! ACK said it best when he said that civilized men shake the hands of strangers, and I couldn’t agree more!

Good grief. There are lots of people I wouldn’t shake hands with, and I could not care less what anyone thinks about it.

Devout libertarians will never find a home in the GOP without killing off the Christian Coalition and Old School Republicans (what is left of the different varieties) and killing any of those off doesn’t leave enough voters to do anything other than become a permanent minority party.

If the GOP factions are truly this radicalized in their beliefs and unable to compromise with one another then they’ll end up doing far more harm to themselves and the GOP than democrats could ever imagine doing.

That this kind of strain is showing in Tennessee may be an indication that the TNGOP is not nearly as healthy as folks think. Some are still trying to reconcile the addition of GA Republicanism with our native E. Tennessee Republicanism.

That is a pretty long newspaper article which mostly just talks about Matt. Sure, there is a single negative thing brought up but it seems like a mostly positive article about Matt. I wonder if the author is by any chance Matt’s friend.

I used to live in TN but I moved to the Live Free or Die state, New Hampshire, last year as part of the Free State Project. While holding a sign at a polling location for a friend of mine, the former Governor of NH came up to me and tried to shake my hand. I refused to shake her hand because her campaign put out signs with many nasty lies about her opponent. She is now the Jr. Senator from NH, and to this day, she is the dirtiest politician I’ve ever met.

Maybe I am not to be taken serious either because I won’t shake someone’s hand. Of course, I don’t expect any reporter in the Live Free or Die state to be bored enough to write an article about me and my hand.

How many hands didn’t get shaken during the primaries when the Ron Paul republicans were treated like dirt? This knife cuts both ways. Of course, what can you expect fron the corporate news. Stop supporting the corporate rag Nashville Post.
