His Problem Is With The System, Not Haslam

Brian Hornback has a beef with the size of Bill Haslam’s average contribution to his gubernatorial campaign:

In this economy, how many citizens can afford to give the Knoxville Mayor $1,004.91? How many employees of the gas gouging fuel retailer can afford to give him $1,004.91? Surely, the employees of the corporate office can and have contributed but not a majority of the gas gouging fuel retailers employees.

NO. AC you got it wrong, Brother. My problem is with the fact that the Knoxville Mayor and his lifestyle has NEVER experienced what I and 99.9% of Tennesseans experience every day. Gibbons is a man that was raised in poverty. Wamp and Ramsey are guys that founght their way to where they are today.

I guess we can blame Billy. He can’t help it that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. But I want a Governor that knows what it is to work for all they have.

    Thanks for asking.

Brian Hornback, you might be right about Bill Haslam being rich, but I read the rest of your article, and you are crazy if you give any serious consideration of the straw poll in Davidson County last week. I was there, and I saw the home-schooled family from Williamson county of Zach Wamp’s Williamson County chairman (a really nice guy), and all 6 of his little kids voted. So presumably, 8 of the 58 votes for Zach Wamp came from that family alone. It also looked like the majority of all 4 campaign staffs were there, and there were people in line to vote who were wearing “I voted” stickers already. I would love to know how they got to vote twice.

I say all of that to say straw polls are dumb, and aren’t indicative of anything. I was following the logic of your article until I got to that paragraph. To say that 5 out of 6 Republicans don’t like Mayor Haslam because 5 out of 6 voters at the Davidson County picnic didn’t vote for him is just silly. Especially when those “voters” are double-voting, are little kids, and are campaign staff members.

Is it true that he has contributions from 2/3 of the counties like you say? How many counties have contributed to the other candidates? Does anyone know?
