Ensign Dropped 5K In Wamp’s Gubernatorial Kitty — After Affair News Broke

Posted on July 20, 2009 at 5:12 pm

From Politico:

Eight days after admitting to an extramarital affair, Sen. John Ensign gave $5,000 to the Tennessee gubernatorial campaign of Rep. Zack Wamp – a fellow Republican who lives with Ensign in a Christian group house on Capitol Hill’s C Street.

Battle Born PAC, Ensign’s leadership PAC, gave $5,000 to Wamp for Governor on June 24, according to the June monthly report for the Ensign leadership fund filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Wamp has said little about the Ensign scandal since it broke last month, refusing to criticize his housemate directly, although he has admitted that the publicity surrounding Ensign has bothered him.

“I hate it that John Ensign lives in the house and this happened because it opens up all of these kinds of questions,” Wamp told the Knoxville News Sentinel last week. But, he said, “I’m not going to be the guy who goes out and talks.”

You can’t spell “stick together” without “C Street.”
Seriously, you can’t. Go ahead & check, I’ll wait.

… there’s a kind of ‘hush’ all over C Street - tonight - all over C Street you can hear the sound of lawmakers in love - you know what I mean …

    Wamp has a prah-blem …

So what. Ensign is Wamp’s friend…he gave him money from his leadership PAC. Big deal.

Agreed. Unless there’s actual evidence Wamp had an affair, this story’s getting old and overplayed.

It isn’t whether or not Wamp had an affair - its what did he know about Ensign’s, and other shenanigans going on at C Street. Do we need a *potential* scandal to erupt during the campaign. What may come out about Wamp in Pickering’s hearing, since the wife alleges the affair took place at C Street, where Wamp lives. Was this a frat boy house for congressmen and senators, under the guise of religion? Lots of questions that should be answered when considering Wamp for Governor.

what did he know about Ensign’s

This is absolutely irrelevant and a distraction from actual issues and policy making. And quite frankly, if he publicly blabs about his friend’s affair to score morality points, I’d think much less of him. I’d rather hear about Haslam’s price gouging at the pump which is more relevant to how he might operate an institution, but not sexy enough for the media to cover it in any substantive way.

Wamp knows of Ensign’s affair. Wamp counsels Ensign as to his affair. Wamp agrees to keep all information within the confines of C Street, because if you answer to C Street, you’re not accountable to anyone else (cough/VOTERS/YOUR WIFE/GOD/cough). Ensign then gives Wamp $5,000.

Do you seriously not see a problem with any of that? Just another day at the office, with one crooked politician covering for another crooked politician? If that’s all you expect, that’s all you’re ever going to get.
