Military spending is where the vast majority of pork and monetary waste comes from and yet to be a “fiscal conservative” usually means to unflinchingly vote for every pork project that has the word “military” stamped on it no matter how outrageous or impossible the project is. I long for the day when our representatives develop an actual policy of “smart spending” and give up the deceptive monikers like fiscal conservative, budget hawk, and blue dog to name a few. I’ve got nothing against military spending in particular or exercising good fiscal sense but those who label themselves budget warriors are usually anything but. They simply spend like drunken sailors on sailors instead of on other things but military spending is so incredibly wasteful and enormous that all other spending pales in comparison.
