‘Guns In Parks’ Opt Out Goes Down In Columbia

Posted on July 19, 2009 at 9:54 pm

The Maury County seat wants permit holders to pack heat in parks if they choose:

The Columbia City Council shot down a measure which would have banned guns in city parks, opening the way for permit holders to carry their weapons in recreation areas.

Members voted 5-2 to defeat the measure, which had been brought by Mayor Bill Gentner, to opt out of a state law which opens parks to people licensed to carry a firearm in state and local parks.

Well Donna, I WON’T be seeing you at the park in Columbia. I think it MAY be safer in the square to hold events now!

The NRA calling down here — just absurd. Some of the parents have almost killed some of kids’ coaches already.

But yeah, Ashford, it’s unsafe here. Don’t come back here! You’ve done enough damage here already, baby!

A similar measure was withdrawn in the Jackson City Council last week.

Kudos to the Columbia city council for doing the right thing, rather than listen to the out-of-touch-with-reality “sky is falling” anti-gun nuts.

8 Days, No wild west shootouts by CCW Permit holders in Parks or Resturants.

~330 DUIs during the same period.

Why are we still allowing Bars and Resturants that sell alcohol have parking lots.
