Guns In Bars

Posted on July 16, 2009 at 7:09 pm

A Chris Wage treatise:

I’m not a “gun nut”. I’m not a Republican. I’m not a conservative. I’ve never owned a gun. I don’t own a gun now, and I have no particular interest in owning a gun. I also agree that guns and alcohol don’t mix. None of these positions is required to believe that private citizens are capable of making decisions on their own, or to see that this legislation will have very little real impact.

I see Kleinheider is still on the Tennessean wire … still “guns in bars,” huh?

He comments on what bloggers comment on. And bloggers are still commenting on this.

It’s all ridiculous scare tactics from the liberals. The law clearly states that you cannot drink and carry a firearm.

Why can you drink and drive, but liberals aren’t concerned about banning cars at bars? You can actually drink (up to .08) and drive legally. More people are killed by drunk drivers than licensed carry permit holders.

You are right Firearms and Alcohol do not mix. That is why it is illegal for a permit holder to carry and drink alcohol.

4 days, no wild west shootouts by Permit holders carrying their guns into the bars.

How many accidents have been caused by DUIs in TN in the last 4 days.

    Bill Summary

    [...]

This bill adds another exemption to the prohibition against carrying a firearm where alcoholic beverages are served for on premises consumption for any person who meets the following conditions:

    (1) The person has a handgun carry permit;
    (2) The person is not consuming any alcoholic beverage; and
    (3) The person is in an establishment that is open to the public, serves alcoholic beverages, wine or beer and is not an establishment that restricts admission to persons who are age 21 years or older by checking patrons’ identifications.

Sounds like “Guns In Bars” to me. *Some* bars are excluded, those who id for 21 up, but some is just some.

Personally I agree with Chris and don’t have any real problem with the bill. But it is what it is, and pretending it isn’t what it is makes one look like a tool.

I don’t see “bar” anywhere in there, Jon.

I also don’t see the word restaurant in there any where. So you’re saying the bill doesn’t allow guns in restaurants?

Or to spell it out for the slow-witted, the bill allows guns in “… an establishment that is open to the public, serves alcoholic beverages, wine or beer…”

A bar is an establishment that is open to the public and serves alcholic beverages.

Some bars allow 21 and up, other bars allow 18 and up. The bill does not allow guns in the former, but does allow them in the latter.

6 Days, no wild west shootouts between CCW Permit holders.

How many DUIs have we had in the last 6 days.

Why do we allow Bars to have parking lots.

    http://www.nashvilledui.com/html/statsfacts.html

    16,000 cases of DUI annually

    16,000/52= 307

Not one Wild West Shootout by CCW Permit holders since the Guns in Bars passed.

Based on the statical data there have been ~300 DUIs…

    Nuff said.
