If Your Local GOP Makes The KKK Look Like The ACLU
By Kleinheider Posted on July 15, 2009 at 2:35 pmThe Nashville Scene’s “You’re so Nashville if…” contest is won by a blogger:
For Jonathan Belcher, the winning YASNI entry he submitted this year was sweet revenge after a year of watching the local and national news in dismay. “Obviously, over the past year I’ve been really keeping up with the Obama bucks and Obama waffles, all the stuff with the GOP,” says Belcher, a disability-claims examiner who maintains a blog called “Imagine Title Here” at jonathanbelcher.blogspot.com. “It was more aggravating and appalling than funny at the time.”
He’s learning to laugh, though—especially after winning the YASNI contest the very first year he decided to enter. A longtime Nashville resident who moved here from Atlanta with his family at age 7, he says he’d been meaning to enter for several years. Of his winning entry, he says he didn’t experience any “Eureka!” moment when it came to him: “It just sort of popped out.” We congratulate Belcher on popping out a winner.

“It just sort of popped out.”
Appropriate for a guy named Belcher.
I love how the YASNI always perpetuates the internicine fighting between neighbours.
What does the winning entry have to do with Nashville?
I remember when the Scene started up, some of my friends went to write for it - and the YASNI actually had something to do with Nashville … and they were witty … and they were funny.
Not so much anymore.
The Scene has changed into little more than “Agro Liberal Dig Central” run by people that have moved to Nashville to help salvage the souls of the poor southern white trash.
I’m outraged! I get an honorable mention but they don’t do a little illustration for it? Then they publish another one of mine but mark it as “Unknown”? The Scene is totally going downhill!!!!
Personally, I thought the second-place entry was funnier than the winner.
“Downhill” is hardly the proper adjective.
It’s little more than the Great Unread being captained by the Wannabee-Unwashed-to-Make-it-Seem-Legit crowd.
It’s like a continual comic book of juvenile save-the-world naivety … and then everybody grows up and has to pay taxes.
Goldni, I thought yours was way funnier than the winner.
And Drinkin, you’ve hit the nail on the head.
The Scene has changed into little more than “Agro Liberal Dig Central” run by people that have moved to Nashville to help salvage the souls of the poor southern white trash.
Whooh! You said it, Kool!
– Unsalvageable White Trash
I guess that will be the name of my blog if I ever start one.
