The Herron Dollars: Full Disclosure — And Then Some

Posted on July 15, 2009 at 7:44 pm

When the campaign of Roy Herron issued its press release yesterday revealing their monetary contributions during the latest reporting period a number of “more than $650,000″ was trumpeted.

However, when the form dropped into the database over at the Registry of Election Finance this evening the number was bit lower than that. $607,941.15, to be exact.

When asked about the apparent discrepancy, campaign spokesman Michael Lamb explained to Post Politics that you have to look at both Roy Herron’s gubernatorial account as well as the Herron’s senate account to get at that final number.

The gubernatorial account did only take in the aforementioned $607,941.15, including a $251,049.15 transfer from the senate account. However, the senate account also expended monies directly toward expenses for the gubernatorial campaign to the tune of $42,248.00, Lamb told Post Politics.

If you add that 42K and change from the Senate account to the 607K and change from the gubernatorial account, that brings Herron’s total up past the $650,000 boasted in the release — by $198 dollars.

However, that number includes contributions past the June 30 deadline of this reporting period. Throughout the disclosure there are several donations which are listed as being received July 1st and after.

Michael Lamb explains this simply, “We elected to overdisclose. We decided to go above and beyond what the law requires.”

Of course, by doing so Herron has a bigger number than he would have had he, like the other candidates, included only contributions received before June 30.

The overdisclosure includes the $100,000 of online contributions boasted in the release. Contributions received online before June 30, were just under that number. So the release was reporting not what the Senator raised during the reporting period but rather what he had raised right up until the release went out.

So basically Herron creatively stretched the truth so he could prove he can compete with McWherter. And the media fell for it. Roy has a special relationship with the truth. Next thing you know he’ll say he invented internet fundraising. Guess he learned a lot from Al Gore.

Sounds to me like herron is just flat lying about his numbers. The mustache hears roy and his boy toys caught wind of neds boy’s numbers and decided, in true herron style not to lie about their numbers. (god would nor like that) but to simply stretch the truth to the nth degree about what he had actually done. So basically roy boy only raised a few dollars more than kimmie mac for the last reporting period? Apparently this is how you can be a Christian in politics.

Another example of Herron playing fast and loose with the truth. This is as slippery as him voting against labor and then changing his vote after he got caught even though he had previously voted against labor . . .

Phew, talk about weaving a tangled web.

Bottom line, voters shouldn’t trust Slick Roy.

If not lying, this is definitely exaggerating the truth. Little Ned is the one to beat.

Don’t know who keeps pretending they are the hairy upper lip of the former TNGOP chair, but the real ’stache warned everyone yesterday that Roy was exaggerating his numbers. He’s a tricky one. Of course everyone on hill has known that for years!

    Amen, ‘Stache. A-freaking-men.

Everybody in LP, Republicans and Democrats, knows you can’t trust Roy Herron. It’s always about Roy, and Roy will lie to your face.

“I don’t mean your bill any harm” is a big lie that everyone has heard.

Did I misread the above? Did Roy’s spokesman actually say they’ve been funding gubernatorial campaign expenses out of his Senate account? Isn’t that illegal? Sounds like a Registry of Election Finance complaint in the making …

Political candidates shall not LIE…..unless it helps you look like you raised more money than the other guys & chick? Over reporting…come on? Misrepresenting numbers & double dipping out of multiple campaign accounts? He has some nerve!

Yep, that’s what he said. Good catch, Harrison. That doesn’t sound kosher to me.

Let’s consider, for a moment, the conversation at Herron campaign HQ.

“Eureka,” says Roy. “Even though I’ve only raised about $370k, I can double-count and over-count dollars, then spoon feed some bogus news release to the nouveau blogger press crowd who will take 24 hours to figure out that I’ve fed them a big heaping pile of shit.”

“But wait, Roy,” says campaign staffer A. “Isn’t that borderline dishonest? Don’t we need to be more transparent? Won’t the bloggers and reporters see through this Madoff-like Ponzi scheme?”

“Ridiculous,” says Roy. “Do you know how long I’ve been gaming the system as a state senator? Nobody ever looks at these disclosure reports anyway.”

“I don’t know, Roy,” says campaign staffer B. “This just seems wrong.”

“Shut up!” Roy says. “Fetch the Senate campaign checkbook! We have more gubernatorial expenses to pay.

“Now … Get on Amazon and order more of my boring-ass books. Use multiple credit cards if possible so we can pretend like I’ve got a bestseller on my hands. Can we run all this through Act Blue?”

The lying Roy Herron still lists himself as the Senate Caucus Chair on his Facebook Page.

Herron’s senate account disclosure lists 251K transfer on 6/11/09. His gov account list transfer on 7/15/09. How incompetent do you have to be to take over a month to transfer money?

This thread is Herron HQ’s worst nightmare. People actually asking legit questions about this flawed reporting. And getting no answers, of course.

    Amen!

From what I’m seeing, I don’t think there’s anyone on Herron’s campaign staff that has the cajones to disagree with this guy.

I have a title for Herron’s next book - “Lies and the Lying Liars That Tell Them.”

    Oh, wait . . .

The truth of the matter is that Roy the Toy Boy raised about as much as Kimmie Mac.

Kimmie Mac got beat by Ward Albertini . . . er, Cammack in the first poll.

Albertini . . . Cammack, that is, barely raised as much money from other people as he spent of his own money. He has about a buck fitty left in his campaign account.

In other words, Roy the Toy Boy. Kimmie Mac and Ward Albertini . . . Oh, screw it . . . are sinking to the bottom of the barrel of suck.

Where are Roy’s boys and that silly-ass Chip Forrester reject woman? They usually troll all over the blogs to lie about Roy.

Maybe they’re having a book club potluck about one of Roy’s stupid books.
