Gibbons: Audit The State

Posted on July 15, 2009 at 8:49 pm

The Shelby DA would want to review everything upon becoming governor:

“I want to make sure we’re operating state government as efficiently as possible,” Gibbons said. “One thing I’d like to do as governor is have a comprehensive review or audit of all of state government to find out what’s working well and what’s not and try to make sure taxpayers are getting a dollar’s worth of services for a dollar’s worth of taxes.”

Uh, yeah, that is already done. It’s what the Comptroller does.

He audits every agency and department of state government, along with local governments. He then publishes an actual document called an “audit” that says what that department or agency should be doing better. Dozens of these are done a year, at least.
