Which Restaurants Are Safe To Carry A Piece In?

Posted on July 14, 2009 at 10:58 am

It’s hard to tell because even under the new law whether you can carry depends on whether the establishment earns most of its revenue from the sale of food or alchohol. The Tennessee Firearms Association lobbyist has a rule of thumb:

“We tell them if it’s a family restaurant, you ought to be fine,” Harris said after yesterday’s court hearing. “If you feel comfortable taking your minor children in, you ought to feel comfortable (taking your gun in). If you would not feel comfortable taking your minor children in there, maybe you ought to think twice about taking your firearm in there.”

Actually, I’d advocate asking them for their last years’ tax returns and a current monthly profit and loss statement. you know, to be sure.

The point of carrying the firearm into the resturant.

My problem is leaving my firearm unattended in my car in the parking lot.

I dont like having to leave my firearm unattended in a public parking lot. Just as I would not want to leave my childern unattended in a public parking area.

The Firearm is safer on my person than in my car.

How many people are murdered by STOLEN firearms?

That’s pretty stupid legal advice. Does bring up a good point, though. I guess all bars will have to post, one way or another.

(Isn’t it already legal to carry in a restaurant?)

    R. Neal..

It is already legal to carry in all resturants (unless they post otherwise).

Yesterday it was not legal to carry your firearm into resturants like Logans, O’Charley’s, ect…

    Because they served alcohol.

If you are drinking alcohol it is not legal to carry your firearm AT ANYTIME.

[...] You, generally, have no way of knowing if you can carry in a place that serves alcohol in Tennessee since the legality is mandated by the percentage of revenue that comes from food sales. So some are offering advice on how to tell. [...]

Here we go again…. READ THE STATUTE! It says in plain language”AGE RESTRICTED VENUE” if it is an AGE RESTRICTED VENUE ie a BAR where you must show ID to enter, yoou cant carry there. If it is a resteraunt that only checks id when you buy a drink, you can carry there. I read the law, and saw nothing in it about sales percentages. In TX and some other states it is done that way, but unless it was changed, the last time I read the one that passed in TN it said Age restricted venue.

Say Uncle has a good idea. I might expand on that to include names of all owners, majority and minority, including a breakdown of individual names in corporate and partnership interests, along with addresses.

I don’t see why not…the newspapers do that with legally licensed concealed firearms permit holders. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

    Regards,
    Rabbit.
