Herron Dollars: $650,000

Via the release:

Nashville—Democratic candidate for Governor and State Senator Roy Herron (D-Dresden) today announced his fundraising totals. His gubernatorial campaign will report more $650,000, including raising more than $100,000 online.

Herron accomplished this despite a statutory ban on fundraising during the legislative session until June 1st and session lasting through June 18th. Herron’s three primary opponents have not been hampered by such a prohibition and have been free to raise funds all year long.

Herron raised $100,089 on the internet. At one point his campaign was called the fourth (4th) “hottest” in the entire country by the Democratic on-line fundraising clearinghouse ActBlue, which also is being used by his Democratic opponents. Herron’s funds come from 1,973 contributors, including supporters in most Tennessee counties.

His campaign reports $603,903 in cash on hand.

The Dresden Democrat said, “Old-fashioned hard work, brand new ideas and wonderful friends have been the keys to our fundraising success, and they are the keys to leading Tennessee forward in creating good jobs, strengthening education and improving healthcare. This far exceeds our goals and others’ expectations. This overwhelming support proves we are on track to get the support we need to win.”

UPDATE: Braisted notes as does Jeff Woods that a good portion of this money could be a transfer.

Congrats to Sen. Herron’s Campaign on the hard work to overcome what should have been a disadvantage.

So this includes the $300,000 already in his account?

Herron’s 4th quarter 2008 state Senate campaign account had an end balance of $282,167.39. If those funds are included in the above tally, then all this is more than just a little disingenuous.

Almost as bad as my alter-ego Ron Ramsey raising more than half of his funds from special-interest PACs. Clearly, the low-hanging fruit for these sitting legislators is the legislative campaign largesse they’ve amassed over the years. And the lobbyists.

According to Braisted he had $282k in his Senate account (http://seanbraisted.blogspot.com/2009/07/green-candidate.html) and it’s not clear how much of that was transfered over, though we should know tomorrow.

It would seem to me that money raised for a State Senate race is still money raised for Herron. It comes from the donor network he would bring to his campaign for Governor, and will likely give in future quarters as well.
The online numbers are great, clearly more than the usual suspects chipping in.

The haters will hate, but this is a position of strength.

I guarantee that some of the folks that gave to Herron’s senate race are supporting other candidates for governor. Just because you want someone to be a state senator, doesn’t mean you want them to be governor. Not being a hater…just stating the truth.

Roy reported raising $92K online on July 7th. Now, he claims that he raised over $100 online for this disclosure which ended on June 30th. I’m no math major, but that doesn’t add up.

What barely literate mouthbreather wrote this crappy release?

No wonder Heyron has to give away those stupid books he wrote.
