Bredesen Gives You The Business

Posted on July 10, 2009 at 2:29 pm

In an upcoming Op/Ed:

Tennessee has shown remarkable success in attracting foreign investment, primarily from Europe, and I continue to believe the Chinese are looking for opportunities to invest in the U.S. as well. Ultimately, that investment means jobs and, at a time when many Tennessee communities are working hard to attract new industry, it doesn’t make sense for our state to pull back or retrench because of the recession.”

course, he doesn’t mention the dirty little secret -that the reason Europe is sending jobs our way is because we’re the worst state in the country when it comes to protecting workers.

    Uh, wait…

The papers just reported Michigan spent $775 million to lure a single product line to a GM plant in Orion, Michigan.

That’s way, way more than Tennessee spent to convince VW to build an entire plant in Chattanooga.

And given that most of the incentives are tax credits against the liabilities those new companies wouldn’t pay anyway if they didn’t locate here, what exactly have we lost?
