Fresh Out

Secretary of State Hargett is having a problem meeting the election standards set forth by the legislature:

State lawmakers passed a law saying Tennessee must use paper ballots counted by optical scan machines by next year’s gubernatorial election. Hargett says it may be impossible to meet that deadline.

“There’s no machine available. I can’t buy something that doesn’t exist,” he says.

It seems like Secretary Harget is having a problem being Secretary of State.

Just another example of how Republicans aren’t fit for public service because they’re flat-out incompetent.

“The Party of No”? Try… “The Party of Can’t”.

If I say I want to kick Secretary of State Hargett in the shins, will he send the TBI out to investigate me?

    Seriously though, this is frustrating.

They wasted 6 months trying to delay implementation of the election standards set forth in the 2008 Tennessee Voter Confidence Act instead of spending the 2 days it would have taken to amend the law to allow us to buy machines certified to 2002 standards. Which by the way, work just fine for two counties in Tennessee and 49 other states.

The bottom line is that Sec of State Hargett just doesn’t want to give the citizens of Tennessee secure and verifiable elections. Key word: verifiable.

Oh, and another “by the way” - The 2005 Election Assistance Commission [EAC] standards are the 2002 standards. No machines that were certified to 2002 standards - which are actually the pre-HAVA NASED [National Association of State Election Directors] standards - were decertified.

NASED Standards are 2002 EAC standards are 2005 EAC standards. Just sayin’.

Well, when Dems/Libs decide what they want (idiot-proof touch screens were all the rage after 2000), it’ll make things a lot easier. And, of course, Dems can’t believe that a plurality (much less a majority of Americans could reject their policies or candidates).

That being said, just print more money to pay for these machines . . . and we can print more money in a couple years to buy the newer ones. And can y’all agree to requiring free photo ID before someone can cast a ballot?
