Guv Cash Numbers: Haslam To Report $3.8M, Wamp $1.2M
By Kleinheider Posted on June 30, 2009 at 10:02 pmTwo top contenders for Tennessee’s Republican gubernatorial nomination say they have raised a combined $5 million through the six-month fundraising period that ends at midnight.
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam’s campaign says he expects to raise $3.8 million, while U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp of Chattanooga says he will come in at about $1.2 million.
Two other GOP candidates, Memphis prosecutor Bill Gibbons and state Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey of Blountville, have not yet released fundraising totals.
Biggest news: The $3.8 million for Haslam includes no personal contributions or loans from the candidate.

Ron and Zach were hoping to raise 3 million to run the full campaign. Ouch.
Ramsey and Gibbons are the also-rans in this race.
[...] Guv Cash Numbers: Haslam To Report $3.8M, Wamp $1.2M : Post Politics: Political News and Views in Te…. [...]
Wamp only raised 1.2 in 6 months….. looks like this race is over
If Wamp raised 1.2 what did Ramsey raise?
500K? 600K?
1.2 is on pace for somewhere in the range of 4 million by next August, which is still an absurd amount of money for a primary…
Give me a break…the Haslams shook down all the wealthy people in this state to look as rich as they possibly could. They just wanna buy it.
And it’s not big news that Haslam didn’t give money to his own campaign. If he had, they might have $200 million in the bank!!!
Funny thing is Haslam insiders have said that 6 weeks ago they thought they could get to 5 million and they have apparently hit a huge wall…
Nice try to the guy above. Trying to go ahead give it to his man “Big Oil Bill” just because they raked in big bucks for his governor’s race.
It’s not that easy, son..not that easy. Ask Terry McCauliffe how his big money worked out for him a few weeks ago in Virginia…Answer: 7 million bucks bought him 26% of the vote.
ACK -
Haslam was never going to dip into his own personal wealth for this disclosure. However, when so many businesses in the state are dependent - either directly or indirectly - on Pilot Oil and “Big Jim,” it doesn’t take too many phone calls to reach $3.8 million in 6 months.
Frankly, I thought Haslam’s total would be higher.
Cheers,
Rob
According to FEC.gov, at this point in 2005, Bob Corker had raised $3.35 million. And he’d been raising for about 9 months.
By comparison, $3.8 million in 6 months is pretty impressive.
Remember in ‘06 Corker was the man with the money and he ended up with the win.
Wamp is an embarrassment, which maybe the donors figured out. Too bad … I was hoping he’d be the guy. Easy to beat in the general.
TN4th…we’ll save you a seat at the Wamp Inaguration in January 2011.
Sen. Ramsey sure is awful quiet. Not like The Whiner at all.
Must be contemplating a tough choice: support Gov. Haslam, who’s gonna win, or (sniff, sniff) throw a bone to the WrongWingers (sniff, sniff) and support inexperienced Congressman (à la Don Sundquist) Wamp (sniff, sniff), once described as a “onetime cocaine-sniffing real estate dealer” by the well-respected Memphis Commercial Appeal.
See Oct. 13, 2003 issue which shot this lead into the heart of Wamp’s abortive Senate bid: “Memphis, meet Zach Wamp, onetime cocaine-sniffing real estate dealer…” We heard Wamp’s sniffing actually occurred more than once. That should make him a multitimer, not a onetimer.
Gotta wonder if Ramsey is closeted away somewhere, looking for a loophole to raise retroactive funding to revive his abortive campaign in an attempt to show $6 million cash on hand.
Or will Ramsey just try to turn this into funnel money for legislative races?
I just cannot believe that nobody has realized how ridiculous it is to have $3.8 million only 6 months into this race… that’s not only disgusting, but it really makes me mad. In a time when families across the state to make ends meet, this MILLIONAIRE is asking people to give HIM money?????? Sickening. There is no need for $3.8 million dollars at this point in the election.
But you know what, from what I’ve seen, Haslam sucks so bad he will need his 3.8 and 25 billion more to win this thing.
And by the way, if you look at gubernatorial races around the country right now, WAMP is way past the fundraising mark of any other candidates- just goes to show how ridiculous 3.8 mill is. Filthy rich bastards.
