Rep. Joshua Evans Calls For Opening The Legislature To Guns

Posted on June 29, 2009 at 8:57 am

A letter to Speaker Ramsey and Speaker Williams:

I encourage you to take the next step in standing up for our Second Amendment rights by opening the legislative complex to carry permit holders.

As you know, Legislative Plaza and the War memorial Building are currently posted to prohibit law-abiding carry permit holders from carrying firearms into the buildings when coming to visit their own elected representatives or to attend legislative sessions. Therefore, any law-abiding permit holder visiting the legislature must leave their gun in the parking lot.

We must not be hypocritical in telling our permit holders we trust their judgment all across the state, but not in our workplace. I feel confident lifting this ban would not affect the safety of visitors or ourselves while at the legislature.

John Harris and the NRA really have a hold on TN. We have become a bunch of non-thinkers if we let the NRA do the thinking for us, we will be the wild-wild-south with shoot-outs everywhere.

It is truly shameful to live in a state when such nonsense gets passed. When the first person who get’s killed in a bar, restaurant, park or legislative building, I hope their family sues the hell out of these fools.

When sergeant-at-arms Mr Victor Thompson and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (and state captitol police) cannot protect those closet schizophrenics then it is time for regular people to stay out of there. Let em take target practice on Louis Deberry, for all i care.

Well, as long as its not Republicans who are bringing guns into the Legislature. They’ll end up missing who they’re aiming for and end up hitting innocent people.

Remember, guns don’t kill people… right-wing cowards do.
