States Bucking The Conventional Federal System

Posted on June 26, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Fro the Tenth Amendment Center:

Right on the heels of a successful state-by-state nullification of the 2005 Real ID act, the State of Arizona is out in the forefront of a growing resistance to proposed federal health care legislation.

This past Monday, the Arizona State Senate voted 18-11 to concur with the House and approve the Health Care Freedom Act (HCR2014). This will put a proposal on the 2010 ballot which would constitutionally override any law, rule or regulation that requires individuals or employers to participate in any particular health care system.

Boy are Republicans stupid to push legislation like this.

They’re just inviting a bunch of Democrat ads next year that have sick, uninsured people blaming the R’s for trying to keep them from getting health care and killing people.

Me loves how stupid they is.

Hope they try it here - it will be what gets the Dems the state legislature back.

    TD,

Did you ever hear the phrase ‘laboratories of Democracy?’ It refers to the Idea that the states should be free to experiment with public policy and was coined by that notorious Rightwingnut, Louis Brandeis.

But why worry about experimentation when we have you and your ilk (or perhaps moose) to tell us what is good for us.

Curious that all of these states are so outraged by universal health care that they’re seeking thinly researched legal strategies to opt out, but never felt so moved by any of the clearly un-Constitutional laws passed by George W. Bush and the Republican controlled Congress?

Maybe torture under a white president is much more palatable than universal health care under a black president?

My sense GOP-controlled states are basically saying “hey, we lost the White House and Congress, but we still control the Supreme Court, so let’s give Washington the finger!”

Wow, a little de-caf might be in order for breakfast here …

I think standing out in the sun at all those teabag rallies may have had an impact.

I just find it a bit hard to accept the argument that warrantless wiretaps are okay, but universal healthcare is an example of government run amok.

Jimmy, the president you likely supported just presided over the largest single expansion of executive power in the history of the republic. Where was your outrage then?

And Cathy, I never used the word “racist”. I simply pointed out the inconsistencies in the opposing position and enjoyed watching the veins emerge in your neck.
