Don’t Make Martyrs

R. Neal on the fate that should await Sherri Goforth:

There have been calls for the termination of Sen. Diane Black’s assistant, Sherri Goforth, a twenty year employee, for forwarding the email. I have mixed feelings about that. Perhaps a better response would be a week or two suspension without pay to give her time to reflect, plus some mandatory sensitivity training. In my view, it’s a “teaching moment” opportunity to turn someone around v. making them a right-wing martyr.

Perhaps this new found sense of indignation at state employees forwarding e-mails can now apply to all the Democrats in state government who comment on blogs all day.

/Because it’s on my dime! *harumph*

Yay. You scalped an old lady to smear Diane Black. My heroes.

Leave her alone. Damn who hasn’t made a mistake.

Yeah, Drew! Who among us hasn’t received a disgustingly racist email, forwarded it to our co-workers at the Legislature, and then apologized for sending it to “the wrong email list”?!

I have been spending my time with a relative at a hospital lately and haven’t been keeping up with much stuff, but apparently, or obviously, there should be more respect for the use of state computers — and that’s the very least of the issues in this situation, but it is the basis for what I have to say next. Which is, if the staffer had a good look at what she was sending/forwarding, then, frankly, she probably should be fired.
